The necklace was from Borgin and Burkes .. as for why .. i think someone put her under the imperius cure .. but i dont know who did it .. I hope it wasnt Malfoy, but i think it had somethig to do with him . seeing as how he was in detention and not in Hogsmede

Isn't that the same necklace from back when Harry accidentally landed in Diagon Alley when he mis-spoke on his first Floo Network trip? Hmmm...
Who bought it? Hmmm... I think that Harry is right, and I am just a little put-off that Hermione and Ron are so adamantly opposed to his theory. I think that this necklace turning up after what happened in Madam Malkin's shows what Draco is really like... the fact that "he wasn't in Hogsmeade" doesn't prove anything to me. It just shows that Draco is smart enough to have an alibi. Any good criminal would do that... Geeez! |

Poor Katie. I am just glad that it didn't reach Dumbledore and someone didn't put it around there neck. Her friend Leean was right. Or however you spell it.

Mrs Black - I agree!
I think he should've gotten Ginny to put that excellent Bat-Bogey-Hex on him! The jerk! Taking stuff that isn't his - but from someone who just passed away!!! Sickening!!! I think Molly Weasley was right about him all along! |

I think Malfoy was up to this somehow. It was lucky Katie didn't die. Unfortunately McGonagal didn't seem to believe Harry.

So sickening about Mundungus. I was really indnignant when I saw him peddling Sirius' old things. But how did he get them, you reckon, since Harry owns Grimmauld Place now ... ?

I laughed so hard when Harry said the Leviscorpus incantation, it was quite hilarious.
Yes I was quite appalled too about Mundungus, and as it was still home to the Order he probably had heeps of chances to nick a few things, sad to see he stooped so low though! All sympathy to Katie, I too thought she was under the imperious curse. I feel that Ron and Hermione couldn't think it was Malfoy because he was in detetion, and could not have put that curse on Katie from inside Hogwarts. Yeah, the Levicorpus incantation was hilarious! I never did like Mundungus. He just seems like a creep. Katie was definitely under the Imperius Curse, but when I read this, I had no clue who had put it on her. I now know, cause I've read the book.

Hee hee, "I" am in this chapter! My name is Leanne, I'm one year older than Harry, and I certainly would have tried to talk Katie out of wandering around with a mysterious package! Anybody else think JKR might have gotten some of her screening ideas from post-9/11 airport messes?

Haha yes..I enjoyed when ron got flipped upside down. Isnt that the spell that James used on snape in the memory harry saw back in book five?

I no the necklace ordeal was very important; I, too, cared about Katie's safety. However, I was excited to hear Harry saying that he was looking forward to seeing Ginny... things are going according to plan.

I have been developing a dislike of Ron for two books now. Harry and Hermione are so protective of his ego that Hermione is prepared to do something thoroughly immoral that harms the ego of a stranger and has lasting after effects in order to get Ron on the Quidditch team instead of a better player. Does Ron deserve this? I don't think so. He has no regard for other people's feeling and is quite prepared to cheat and any opportunity even at the expense of others. I think he is a coward and when I read on P.227 that he thought his family's reputation as blood-traitors meant that he didn't have the option of becoming a Death Eater I thought it is just as well he doesn't have the choice of taking the cowards way.
Why did JKR include the scene with Mundungus? There must be some significance. Why would Dung try to fence those things in Hogsmead of all places? The place is full of teachers, aurors and students who have been in #12 Grimmauld Place and would have seen it. Also, how did Dumbledore know about the confrontation? I think Dung was taking those things to Dumbledore on his orders. |

I was just rereading chapter 12, and I came up with a few questions. All of the page numbers are in the american version.
-Is levicorpus just a nonverbal spell, and if so, how do you make a spell only nonverbal?(pg 239) -It seems like Dung and Aberforth(atleast that is who we are assuming the barman at the Hog's Head is) were doing business together..that was interesting to me.(pg 245) -On page 249, when Katie was attacked, if you will, by the package, why were there no order members who saw here? I was under the belief that they were to be monitoring everywhere in Hogsmeade to watch everyone. -Also, since I believe the package was on its' way to Dumbledore like Harry believed, would Dumbldore of opened the package? I doubt he would of, but it gives you something to think about..what would of happened?(pg 256) |

I can't believe that Mundungus was staeling Sirius's stuff! That's wrong on so many levels.
Poor Katie! Who is going to be the new chaser now? I wonder who the cursed necklace was supposed to go to, and who she got it from. I think Malfoy sent it. He had to. If Harry is right and the necklace was for Dumbledore, it's not like he would have opened it. I'm sure that he was his mail checked for such things. |

Mundungus is such a low life, I can't believe Lupin or somebody didn't notice and kick his butt for being so insensitive- I just know he's evil to the core.
I felt bad for Katie, I really thought she would have been the team captain this year but now I see why she wasn't made captain- she had to get that dang package. Doesn't she know not to take anythings that given to you in the bathroom? |

• Again with the nonverbal spells. They have to be able to cast them in their head? Why? For HBP or for Book 7?
• The Levicorpus spell. Harry remembers his father using it on Snape and even goes so far to hope that the HBP is his father. And look at how Ron defends both Harry’s and James’s use of it, saying they “were just having a laugh” (241). We know that Snape didn’t see it that way, and Hermione’s commentary reminds me a little bit of Lily. I wonder if Lily was as cautious or guarded as Hermione can be? • Oooh, more hints of Harry and Ginny, sittin’ in a tree…. Even though she’s with Dean, Harry is paying more attention to her (or maybe it’s because she IS with Dean). • It’s interesting to me that so many of the spells in this chapter, and earlier ones, are really about being powerless. It seems to me a solid metaphor for our protagonists’ lives. • You know, all these folks are telling Harry that he has to be less impetuous, that he needs to be more reasoned. I believe it’s to prepare him, eventually, to confront LV. He’s so certain that he’s right that he doesn’t want to listen to anyone: not his best friends, not his professors, not Hagrid, not DD. He’s in danger of becoming a real loner if he keeps it up. That might be why DD has suggested he continue to confide in Ron and Hermione. |

I also believe that the necklace had been from Malfoy; Harry was convincing me more every chapter that Malfoy was up to something.
I think Harry does not want to listen anymore because most of the time when he is guessing someone is up to something, it is true, and he is sick of how people are acting around him..I cannot blame him. |

Mundungus-stelaing Harry's stuff-not exactly a surprise, but this is the first time harry really loses his temper in this book.
Poor Katie-obviously not the intended recipient-unlikely to be the last of those. As i read on-i develop even more of a dislike for Malfoy (not that I liked him anyway!) Harry-wants Ginny, Ron wants Hermione-could it be ANY plainer?! wish they would hurry up and get it together *laughs* Found the image of Ron being hoisted into the air hilarious Like Dean and Seamus i "roared with laughter" just imagining this..but as Hermione said it was used by Death Eaters-still funny though...right?! |

Did anyone else find the description of Mundungus interesting at all? I had never noticed a decription of him like this one before this book. However he is said to be bandy-legged with ginger hair and I don't remember the rest. That sounds an awful lot like Crookshanks.
haha. It probably means absolutely nothing at all but it was just something that I noticed. |
