The Commonwealth of Nations Flag

In the time that I've been familiar with HPANA I've noticed that many peoples belonging to the British Commonwealth have created their own threads here in the Great Hall where they and their countrymen and women can hang out and just chat amongst themselves. I thought that this was a really good idea, but I really enjoy talking to people from around the world, particularly those who live in the British Commonwealth. How, then, was I going to talk to them all more often without intruding into their threads? As far as I'm concerned I don't belong in any of the threads made for persons of a certain country unless that country is my own. Then it hit me, it was so simple. Many of us might all live in different countries around the world, but a good many of us share one thing in common, at least, we all belong to the Commonwealth of Nations! It was with that in mind that I decided to create this thread for all of us Commonwealthers to hang out in.

There are 53 counties in the Commonwealth of Nations and anybody who lives in one of them is welcome to post here. I only ask that everybody keep things civil, there's enough fighting in the world without us going off at each other, eh?

Once upon a time I used to have everybody who had ever posted here listed below, but the list was impossible to keep current. So I decided that I would remove all the names of those who are not members I personally know to be active or friends from the past. I'm sorry to everybody who's name might have come off the list, and if you would like to have it restored please stalk me and I will put you back on the list.

I don't live in a Commonwealth nation,so I hope it's okay for me to post here. I was born in a Commonwealth country,though - India. My grandparents,who were Indian,worked for India's independence from British colonialism,but completely supported the Commonwealth,and I have recently been reading up on some Commonwealth history. I have a huge respect for it,and the whole idea of it. The nations of the Commonwealth have accomplished some really important things together. They had a lot to do with the ending of apartheid in South Africa and have helped with various regional problems all over the world.

The fact that the Commonwealth has nations from every part of the world is really important,I think. The diversity in it makes it stronger than if it were just a group of countries from the same region or continent. Like any group,large or small,it may have its problems,but I think history will look back and see the Commonwealth of Nations as an early form of world government that may have begun with colonialism,but evolved into something that helped people of many cultures and races all over the world.

Interesting idea Colt. I'll jump in as another Canadian. I have somewhat of a Commonwealth pride as well, although if I had to move, it'd be to the US first. Then maybe England.

I live in the U.S. now,because my dad's American,but we lived in England before we came here. I'd love to live there again,or in Canada. I'm a U.S. citizen,there are many things about it that I like,but lots of things I don't like so much.England has always seemed like home to me and so many of the laws there and in Canada are so much more sensible.My aunt and cousins live in Australia so I'd at least like to visit!

Hey Thestral Eyes (Stalk) How are you? I'm a little confused, perhaps you could help me out? You said you were looking for a flag, what exactly is the significance of this flag? I've seen it all over the place, hell, it flys in a park a little whiles' drive away from where I live.

Tehe i can imagine people postin gin this thread sat behind thair computers waving mini flags of their countries tehehe *waves* I always get confused as to say im English or British...and wether i should have put that England flag up or the Union Jack...confusselment! aha

Hey, nymphadora84, I've got a bunch of flags too, I'm working on getting all the flags of all the Commonwealth countries.

...Colt, thats Englands flag....tehehe well, its called st georges flag, but its the flag of England. Like the blue with the white diagonal cross is the scottish one and the red dragon is the welsh one :) THe union jack is the flag for the collective, or 'great Britain'...its all confusing aha.

And the Welsh flag has a red dragon on it with a half white half green background, and Scottish with a blue background and a white X across it!

wether i should have put that England flag up or the Union Jack...confusselment! aha

That's what I suspected it was, Rachel, the English flag, so it's almost like you have two flags sort of. That and the Union Jack.

Wow, I never knew that's what Canada's flag used to look like. I knew that it used to be different but I've never actually seen a picture of the old one. I actually like it better than the one we have now.
