Discussion: The 'Phoenix' files Popular (22355)

So, you've read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and pretty darn quick, too. Like many others around the world, you have a sore neck and strained eyes, the result of reading an 870-page book in two or three days. Now you want to share your arduous journey with others. This is the place to do it.

First I'll offer my own thoughts (LET THE SPOILERS BEGIN).

One word: WOW. And I thought the Dursleys were mean. As I'm thinking of where to begin talking about Order of the Phoenix, the one thing that keeps coming to the forefront of my mind is the book's grave look into the corruption and abuse of power (and vice-versa, the power of abuse and corruption). Whether found in the annals of history or safely between the book covers of children's fiction, it can be accurately restated that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

More on that later, but first, the death: How many of you were right? Raise your hands. Sirius was definitely on my short-list. When JK said a major character was going to die, I knew it wouldn't be any of the trio, I thought it might be an older Weasley, but then my thoughts turned to Sirius. He was given to Harry, so how painful could it be to have him taken away? That was my reasoning, anyway.

Is Cho finally "over-and-out"? Will the Weasley twins' business continue to succeed? Does the Ministry now understand how much it needs Dumbledore?

UPDATE: We now have a full-fledged forum available. Click here to start using it!

Q: What will happen to the content here?

A: Everything will be saved. In fact, I'd like recommendations on what to do with all the great posts here. Can we move some of it into the new forum? Just link back to it? Let me know (just mention my name, Cheeser, in any post).

Q: I don't like change! Waaaa!

A: That's not a question, but I understand. The new system is capable of so much more, including separate threads so people can have detailed conversations about certain aspects of the book. You can still have a free-for-all thread, too. It's your forum! Do whatever you want with it.

I don't think that Mrs. Weasley is going to die. I think that Hermione will disappear in the next book, and she'll return in 7. I think Dumbledore will die.

I can't help but wonder if others will die also. thus far, only 1 main character per book, but I think that will change.

I am often on during the day (on Instant Messenger), but that is for work purposes, so I can't engage in private discussions. Just to let you know.

I am not certain who my favourite character is. I deeply admire all who are with Harry. I'll have to think about that. "Love" doesn't quite seem to be the right word for any of them, but that may just be because of our limited use of the word "love" in English.

Good night.

I am convinced that Umbridge will have to join Volde. I must admit, I wouldn't mind seeing her go, if someone has to.

I wonder, will Percy go toward the dark, and only redeam himself by saving someone (HG, HP, his own brother)? Then he would probably die too....

I can't see that JK will let most of the people we know live. After all, it's a war, and many die in war.

Virginia- Your theory about Hermoine going missing in the next book, what makes you think that this could happen?
WitchyWays- I agree with you that if Hermoine or Ron were to die, Harry would blame himself. He is caught in the middle and he would feel that if they had never become friends, they would never have been in any danger.
I do agree that even though the Weasleys aren't blood family to Harry, they're still his family!

ok..i just got done reading about..200 post so sorry if i responded to something you said a few post pages ago.
HarryDan - i also wanted to scream when i read about poor ol sirius.
Beatrice M N - i agree about the 12 thing but when i tried to get to the site that list them all, that page was down
Kadyak - in rikki tiki tavi the snake nagina was killed by rikki, right? and wasnt the male snake she had..baby snakes with dead? so maybe someone will be like rikki since lucious is in azkaban and kill narcissa?and rikki also killed her eggs..so maybe draco will die to?

has anyone thought that maybe snape played quidditch and he was like same position james was so james beat him in a match and another reason he hates harry is cause of his quidditch skills?

Flitterbloom says:

tonks black- hmmnn.. The whole Snape/James same quidditch position is definitly another reason as to why Snape could hate James so much. I mean, when Harry is asking Sirius and Lupin about what he saw in Snape's thoughts, they told Harry that James was better at everything.. so this definitly could have included Quidditch. I was on mugglenet a few weeks ago looking at the oddities and when I was scamming through all the books again afterwards I must admit that the number of times JKR uses the number 12 is amazing. Also, the colour purple. Everything is the colour purple/violet.. The knight bus, robes.. they're is a lot more, but if you read the books you'll begin to see how many times she uses the colour purple. Also she mentions socks a a lot.. usually in reference to Dobby and the names of flowers. Petunia, Lavendar, Pansy.. is there more.. probably! Those oddities were really interesting!

lol! Purple Flowers.. maybe!
Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle.. Everyone knows that they're fathers are death eaters, but we know that even with their fathers in Azkaban now, that they probably won't be in there that long.. What will happen to those 3? Will they stay in school, and if they do, will Dumbledore take away their quidditch privleges, and will he also take away Malfoy's prefect badge? Any thoughts..?

Flitterboom- I think that Dumbledore is a just man and he won't punish those three for things that their fathers have done, as Dumbledore has often made a point that it is not potential that defines a man but his choices. So until they make similarly bad choices as their fathers Dumbledore will not punish them.

Flitterbloom- I don’t think Dumbledore will revoke anyone’s privileges because everyone deserves a fair chance and after all “you can’t choose your family” and maybe Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle aren’t as evil as they seem (although they probably are).

Just out of curiosity is there any other British people posting on these boards.

Tonks Black- Madam Pomfrey related to DD? I don't think there's all that much evidence to support that. I mean, it could be possible, anything is possible with these books, but I just don't see her being related to DD.. I don't see any importance in that. I have no idea on the other hand if she's pure blood or not, or how old she is? Does anyone..

Also, I know it's probably been brought up here before but as I don't feel like looking through 1440 posts for it I'll just ask. What does everyone think abuot Petunia Dursley now that we know about Harry being protected while at her house, and that she knows about things in the magical world? I'm just hoping to get an analysis of her, and everyones theories and idea..predictions anything really..

I think Petunia is going to have a hard time with Vernon
if attacks continue against Harry at the Dursley House.
Since, Moody and company warned the Dursleys to treat
Harry better, I do not think they are going to be as
nasty to him, but are not going to go out of their way to
be nicer to him. Probably, they will not invite him to watch televison with them, but will not kick him out of the room if he comes in. Do you think Harry will try to get to
know Mrs. Figg better? Will DD continue to have people
watching Harry secretly?

tonks black- oooh I really like that idea. Something like that should happen it would really make his summer life more interesting. I wonder if Professor McGonagall will take a larger role in book six, especially in an Order of the Phoenix way. I get the feeling she will as she demonstrated her loyalty to Dumbledore when she was willing to assist him on taking on Fudge, Umbridge, Dawlish, Shacklebolt, and Percy Weasley in Dumbledore's office.

Do you think they can afford to have one person with
Harry all summer? Last summer they took turns watching him.
Plus how much of the wizarding world do they want to
expose to the Dursleys? I am surpised that Dudley
keeps his mouth shut.

if mcgonagall stayed in her cat form all summer but put on muggle clothes before she transformed, she could possibly stay with mrs.figg and other people could just visit harry every now and then since moody and ohers confronted vernon and petunia at the end of OotP

Tonks Black - I think that McGonagall staying with Harry could definitly happen. And I agree with Imperio that she's probably going to take on a much larger role in the 6th book. As I belive that Dumbledore may soon leave us, McGonagall would be my guess to take over as headmisstress at Hogwarts. Didn't someone mention that JKR said someone was going to learn magic later in life? Someone's answer to that was perhaps it's Neville.. but I believe Neville knew magic all along. I still think it may be Petunia.. She seems to know more about the magical world then even she realises..
