Discussion: The 'Phoenix' files Popular (22355)

So, you've read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and pretty darn quick, too. Like many others around the world, you have a sore neck and strained eyes, the result of reading an 870-page book in two or three days. Now you want to share your arduous journey with others. This is the place to do it.

First I'll offer my own thoughts (LET THE SPOILERS BEGIN).

One word: WOW. And I thought the Dursleys were mean. As I'm thinking of where to begin talking about Order of the Phoenix, the one thing that keeps coming to the forefront of my mind is the book's grave look into the corruption and abuse of power (and vice-versa, the power of abuse and corruption). Whether found in the annals of history or safely between the book covers of children's fiction, it can be accurately restated that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

More on that later, but first, the death: How many of you were right? Raise your hands. Sirius was definitely on my short-list. When JK said a major character was going to die, I knew it wouldn't be any of the trio, I thought it might be an older Weasley, but then my thoughts turned to Sirius. He was given to Harry, so how painful could it be to have him taken away? That was my reasoning, anyway.

Is Cho finally "over-and-out"? Will the Weasley twins' business continue to succeed? Does the Ministry now understand how much it needs Dumbledore?

UPDATE: We now have a full-fledged forum available. Click here to start using it!

Q: What will happen to the content here?

A: Everything will be saved. In fact, I'd like recommendations on what to do with all the great posts here. Can we move some of it into the new forum? Just link back to it? Let me know (just mention my name, Cheeser, in any post).

Q: I don't like change! Waaaa!

A: That's not a question, but I understand. The new system is capable of so much more, including separate threads so people can have detailed conversations about certain aspects of the book. You can still have a free-for-all thread, too. It's your forum! Do whatever you want with it.

jade and pudifoot... honestly, I didn't notice that Dan's eyes were blue in the movie... I thought they looked green. It wasn't until I saw the cover of the poster and the DVD that I noticed... even then it did'nt really bother me. I guess he is doing a great job, I know Harry's eyes are green and whatever.

THEORIES are incredible! You should post them.

Has anyone else wondered who as the last to take the auror's aptitude test? McGonnagall said it had been three years since anyone had taken them... was it Tonks? Somehow I thought she was a bit older.

After catching up I'd like to comment on the following:

Buckbeak & rats: Awesome foreshadowing! Buckbeak kills Wormtail. Has to be.

Voldemort: "Theft of life" in French. I'm sure someones done an analysis before. Has potential implications with the prophesy. Any comments?

Portraits: How DOES a portrait get made. What is the existance of a portrait compared to a ghost compared to a mortal. Could Harry interact? Does the portrait stop "maturing" when painted? For example, would Sirius, if he was painted as a youth, know Harry? Has there ever been a portrait of someone who is still alive? Lot's to think about here.

I'll post back more on the "Theft of Life" after I've pondered it.

O.k I just thought of something...Ok I was reading that the Color "Green" has a healing power...I don't know what this has to do with Harry Potter or not...didn't his mom have Green eyes also? Could this mean that Harry's Eyes have some sort of Healing power OR just power at all? Ima---what do you think?

Sirius-Ella - that is very interesting. I wonder if she (Lily)was a healer at St. Mugios(sp?)

I think the idea that green was related to evil was very good, but this could be better... earlier it was posted that Voldie would have the power of Hate and Harry of LOVE. Kindof a ying/yang thing... love can be healing.

Your thoughts?

jade - Tonks is younger that Sirius and older than Harry.

BUT was she at Hogwarts when Harry started? If she is the last to take the test, then she would have been... she acted at Privet Drive as though she had never seen him... so I guess she must be older than Harry by at least 5 years.

I wonder who it was. Did they not make it? Could it be a future enemy? Books 1-4 mention any of the career paths of upper students?

This is a possibility in place of the immortal theory of Newts... although, I still like it alot.

Harry does heal from things that others would dies from.

I think the Hogwarts thestrals would have flown home to the forest when they'd had enough of London. I like the healing power of green thought. I aged Tonks at about 22 I think.

What if it were Marcus Flint. no, he wouldn't have gotten the OWLS. It had to be a SR from book 3...

OK... Penelope Clearwater.. what is she doing these days. I have speculated that Percy will marry her and not invite the family to the wedding.

She was a prefect, right age...

I wonder if it is the same side as Bellatrix, Narcissa, and Andromeda. If so, Ron would be cousings with Draco.

The wizard world geneology is interesting to me especially since Sirius made points to say that all pureblood familys were related and Hagrid made a point to say that no wizard didn't have some muggle in them.

HGreenbacker8705 - I agree with your thougths about Harry saving Draco, and the parallels.

Also, when Harry saves Draco, I doubt that they will become friends as it has been speculated. More likely the Snape/Sirius barely tolerable relationship.

Do you think that the parallel could run as deep as Sirius being related to Snape?

Gryffindork says:

If Harry ever does sace Draco I agree at thinking that it will be close to the Sirius/Snape relationship. Also I think that the parallel could run deep and just make Sirius and Snape distantly related. That is getting kindof strange but if JKR can make Neville look almost like a hero than she can do anything.

HGreenBacker and Ima Quidditch Fan: Strange, we never did learn about Snape's parentage. I wonder if he's a pureblood? Most likely... I think there's a good chance he's related to Sirius. Anyone notice the part where someone said Snape was like Lucius' right-hand man, or something to that effect?

Juno Puddifoot says:

Yep Ima, heheh I DID read em all book four to one right before I read OotP, I thought it might give me a different perspective or something, I fnd rereading sometimes I don't read so closely because you're starting to expect certain things to come up. But erm, it wasn't that helpful, still good though.

I was thinking JK just made Ginny grow up a little. I mean, she had to do it somehow, Harry was never going to fall for her when she was too shy to speak around him, she wasn't being herself. Now she is being herself, but she probably isn't infatuated with him (I mean infatuation is an unhealthy type of love isn't it).

Hey I have been thinking that Sirius and Snape might be related too. Particularly when Snape approaches Harry after Sirius's death when he's figuring out which curse to use on Malfoy (love that scene lol), I just pick up a different nuance about Snape although Harry will apparenlty never forgive him.
