Discussion: The 'Phoenix' files Popular (22390)

So, you've read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and pretty darn quick, too. Like many others around the world, you have a sore neck and strained eyes, the result of reading an 870-page book in two or three days. Now you want to share your arduous journey with others. This is the place to do it.

First I'll offer my own thoughts (LET THE SPOILERS BEGIN).

One word: WOW. And I thought the Dursleys were mean. As I'm thinking of where to begin talking about Order of the Phoenix, the one thing that keeps coming to the forefront of my mind is the book's grave look into the corruption and abuse of power (and vice-versa, the power of abuse and corruption). Whether found in the annals of history or safely between the book covers of children's fiction, it can be accurately restated that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

More on that later, but first, the death: How many of you were right? Raise your hands. Sirius was definitely on my short-list. When JK said a major character was going to die, I knew it wouldn't be any of the trio, I thought it might be an older Weasley, but then my thoughts turned to Sirius. He was given to Harry, so how painful could it be to have him taken away? That was my reasoning, anyway.

Is Cho finally "over-and-out"? Will the Weasley twins' business continue to succeed? Does the Ministry now understand how much it needs Dumbledore?

UPDATE: We now have a full-fledged forum available. Click here to start using it!

Q: What will happen to the content here?

A: Everything will be saved. In fact, I'd like recommendations on what to do with all the great posts here. Can we move some of it into the new forum? Just link back to it? Let me know (just mention my name, Cheeser, in any post).

Q: I don't like change! Waaaa!

A: That's not a question, but I understand. The new system is capable of so much more, including separate threads so people can have detailed conversations about certain aspects of the book. You can still have a free-for-all thread, too. It's your forum! Do whatever you want with it.

Jade - I think that it is possible, and it may be one of the more probable theories discussed here. Of course, I'm not exactly going out on a limb here, as I'd be surprised if one out of ten things we discuss here comes true in the next two books. Still, it is a pretty good theory.

Sinister accident to the left....
Guess not. Hmmmmm, she is probably an RH, but I would like to know more, especially since she most often sits and talks to Snape, dances with (Crouch Jr.)Moody, and teaches only at night. Do you think she is in Slytherin?

She couldn't be the right-hand man? Left side of good/bad?

The students never really comment on her classes either... it is almost as if they don't exist, but they seemed to know the information for the OWL.

jade - Romeo and Juliet... yes, I am fond of the Shakespear connections...

What about the Snape as Romeo and Andromeda or her daughter Tonks as Juliet?
That also fits with the Perseus story...

girliegirl - Bellatrix is the sister to Andromeda (TOnks' mom), and Narcissa Malfoy... pureblood family,
She was once beautiful, no more...
I think she sounds a lot like Medusa. I wonder if she will be able to turn people to stone by looking at them in book6?

Jade I agree that Alice will play a bigger role. I mean why was she met in OotP and not Frank. I am hoping poor ol Neville doesn't get caught in the crossfire, I've got a soft spot for Neville. Although if I had to choose between who buys a ticket, he or Harry, well, I'd choose Neville.

I was thinking (uhoh) about the wand thing, Neville with his Dad's wand. Why did Ron have Percy's old wand? Did Percy outgrow his wand? (Was it even Percy's wand, or another brother).

I've gotta split yet again, so I leave you all with this question (which, of course, must be discussed by the time I come back ::Chuckles::): What is the bleeding wildest bloodly theory you've ever heard or thought of dealilng with the future of the Harry Potter series?

::Bows and takes a leave::

Jade:
I don't know about the whole Alice being Harry's Godmother...but I do think that Nevills plant will play an importent part into healing his parents..and mabye Gildrow(giggles) I was thinking maybe Neville steps infront of Harry..and Alice steps infront of Neville and that sacrifice will make Neville even stronger..just like it did for lily and harry..and neville will help harry with the downfall of Voldemort....as is the others (ginny, ron, hermione and d.a.) NOW do I get the award for far-fetched theorie or what?!! woooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! g'head laugh lol i'm laughing with you

Newt Scamander - Easily the wildest theory I have heard is that it is all a dream and Harry wakes up in Book 7 with a scar. I really, really would hate that ending!

jade - true, I don't want to make people sick. Just trying to balance out all of the theories I like. :)

girliegirl - glad you dropped in... miss your theories. It has been a lot of fun here for the past few days... not so stiff. Let us know the URL to your fanfic.

Sirius-Ella - seriously, Alice Longbottom, as the godmother.

- same age as Lily
- sons days apart
- in the Order together

they had to be friends...
I can see them making a pact if one was injured to watch out for the others child at the least.
Also, it explains why no one has mentioned it... she lost her mind... she's in the hospital.

James picked his friend, Lily picked hers... My husband is the godfather to a multitude of kids... I am the god mother to the only 2 he is not godfather of... weird I gues, but that is how it worked out... Also, the circumstances surrounding each child/godparent is different... In my husband's case most of the kids are his nieces and nephews, but he/we are not expected to raise them in the even it is needed. My in-laws are asked to do that, and next in line is the other set of grandparents. On the other hand, my god children would be our financial responsiblity. So, I guess it is anyones guess... :)

Juno Puddifoot
Order of Merlin, 2nd Class
House: Gryffindor
Points: 1782

Juno Puddifoot says:

ooooh can I let my speculative urge run wild? Huh Newt?

Ummm, Harry is in fact a house-elf from the House of Longbottom bewitched by Lily and James to look EXACTLY like them, hence the sticky up hair (what normal hair does that?) and his mother's green almond shaped eyes. He is actually protecting Neville and basically 'paving the way' for Neville's last stand agains Voldemort. Believing himself to be 'the one' he fights bravely using powerful elf magic and well, assists Neville who is able to bottle up Voldemort in a genie jar. Voldemort now sits on the Longbottoms mantelpiece (the Longbottoms were INDEED restored by Nevilles plant), where he is occassionally picked up and rattled around. Which annoys him considerably and he learns the true meaning of Dumbledore's wise words that there are indeed fates worse than death.

By the end of the series, with a crack and puff of green smoke, the true Harry emerges and is reunited with his long lost brother Dobby, and true mother Winky. And they all live happily everafter having brought freedom, equality and fraterntity to the elves.

Apologies everyone for ther erm, spoilers:) *coughs*

I still think for the moment Tonks has a crush on Bill Weasley. Don't you think she is ever so more clumsy around him? I think that a Bill/Nymph relationship would put Molly on the roof!

Puddifoot, yes, THAT is it! Brillliant, beyond words!

I bet Voldie will slip off the mantel and konk Arthur Weasley on the head as he travels by floo powder... rendering him helpless to perform his ministry duties, and Percy will come to his senses and take his place. He will re-enslave Harry, Winky and Dobby, and Harry's new girlfriend Cudley.
