In an act of destruction
the train used as the Hogwarts Express
in the Harry Potter films has been spray painted by vandals.
Police are calling in experts to identify the painted "tag" -- the slang term for the vandals' painted logo and it has been estimated the damage will cost about £3,000 to repair.
PC Tony Martins, of the British Transport Police said:
"It must have cost the vandals a fortune in spray paint. They must have been at work for at least an hour."
Update: Here is Reuters' report
.

That's a lot of paint. They'll probably be caught, though. I can't imagine someone doing that and NOT bragging to someone else.

That's so sad. Vandalism is so pointless, and to do that to a film icon of sorts is just wrong. Hopefully, there will be no lasting damage, and we will be seeing the Hogwarts Express in all of her glory again soon.

::laughing:: (what's with this no chatspeak - everyone uses l-o-l) - I know it's bad to say this - but I think it's kinda funny...I bet they felt like BIG people after that:
"Man...whatcha been doin'?!"
"Dude - we did something so bitchin' last night!"
"Like what? Did ya go beat up the rivals?"
"No, man, better than that...we tagged the Hogwarts Express!"

I think they were (are) really tired of HP or that they actually hate HP for doing something like that, it demands a lot of time and money! Really bad thing to do but hopefully it can be repared. Cheers!

Flizzle Who knows? I mean, they're coming out with new stuff to hate HP on everyday...I think it's coming out faster than bad 12 year old fanfics or something - but anyway...they have a right to hate it - really, they do, but let's not go picking on the train! The poor thing has enough troubles, disrailing off the track, blowing into flames, now being spray painted on?
Geez, give it a break

I'm kinda surprised, i mean how could no one have caught them in that hour and a half they were doing it. They obviousely must not have been useing the train in shooting today. THAT IS HORRIBLE THOUGH! Wish they didn't do that. Hope they can fix it.

Geez, why did it have to be that train ? Why couldn't they spray another one - there are a thousand old and ugly trains, but noooo, "let's tag the Hogwarts Express - so maybe we'll piss those kids off. What's with this reading anyway?"
childish, a waste of time and money if you ask me.
as a matter of punishment, they should read the books & write at least 10 rolls of parchment on the uses of dragon blood ...

Really hope they are caught. Look how quickly the people who "found" the copies of OotP before it was officially published were caught. I want to see what kind of people would do such destructive and pointless vandalism.

At least an hour to complete? SO, who was supposed to be guarding the train during that time? I simply cannot subscribe to the idea that something used in such a popular film series is left on it's own after hours, not in a secured area or anything.
What kind of person would do such a thing to any property that does not belong to them? Someone who has no respect for the people or the world in general. A degenerate. Someone who deserves a small prison term for vandalism.

Great, Chandra80: Stupid people shoudn't breed. I laughed my head off. Let's start a petition!
- But is it really aimed at HP? Another misguided soul, who hates HP and everything connected with it? Or is it "just" plain senseless vandalism? Or did they just searched for something well known and the Hogwarts Express came in handy?
Ah, no matter what reasons, they should be punished. And electra, they should write the 10 rolls of parchment with Umbridge's gruesome quill: I will not spray the Hogwarts Express again...
