This is Bradford has an article on the Parvati/Padma open casting callopens in new window currently going on in British schools. Casting director Shaheen Baig, is looking to fill two major roles in the fourth JK Rowling adaptation, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Miss Baig spent last week visiting schools in the area searching for the perfect pair of Asian girls to play the characters Parvati and Padma Patel. The chosen girls will have major scenes opposite the film's main stars Daniel Radcliffeopens in new window, Emma Watsonopens in new window and Rupert Grintopens in new window because they will be playing Harry and Ron's dates for the Yule Ball.

Miss Baig said:

"In this book they are actually written as twins but it has been incredibly difficult to find Asian twin girls so we decided to open it up and just find two girls. We're looking for two girls, if they happen to be sisters that would be amazing, but it doesn't really matter. We just want two good girls who have fantastic chemistry."

Shooting for the film begins in April next year and the film will be released in 2005.

Whoa, I had no idea those two were supposed to be asian. What's with Rowling and asisan girls? It is cool that she adds alot of different characters and races and stuff to the books. Its a good way to show kids everyone is unique yet we are all really the same.

Honestly I think the casting director qouted "Asian" term meaning for girls from India, Indian. India is consider part of Asia. Besides I had a guy in high school who was Indian and had the last name "Patil", pranavkumar patil(People like to tease him by calling him porno instead of pranav which he's usually called by). I'm asian and hopefully they cast good looking girls to play the part, since they are describe that way in the book. If, I mean olny if the director actually does hire "asian" girls they better be pretty because the one I see so far in mainstream are ulgy ex. Lucy Lu(dog-ulgy and her eyes and freckles or others with worse flat pig nose-female thai stars are way better looking)Yet Kelly Hu is good looking, she's hawaiian(hawaiians are chinese and japanese decents, though)she starred in the Sporpion King and was Miss America!Being shallow or superficial here, no I'm telling the honest truth and my opinion. No my eyes aren't as slanted or small(like sterotype kinds), they're almond shape, I don't like my nose(no they aren't so flat and wide), my lips aren't thin, I'm okay looking, my little sis is better looking, most people think she is white or half because her huge eyes and poky nose. Whoa!sorry comments bit long but I'm definitely interested in this article...Hahahaaa..Heheeeeee

Yay they're puting in the ball scene. To bad they don't really hire outside of Britian. Hmmm... Maybe I should become an exchange student. ::Daydreams:: It could happen. I hope they find two asian/british girls that would be really great... cause the movie would stay closer to the girl in the book.

Maybe i'm late in correcting people, i only joined a week ago.
but if people do come across my message, i hope this solves the mystery of Parvati and Padma Patil.
I am from India, which is in Asia!!! So i am indian as well as asian, its not that different for the asians living in britain. They are british, but of asian heritage. and the only asians are not japanese or chinese, there are indians, pakistanis, bangladeshis, among others. Look at a map of Asia.

Then again, Parvati is the name of a hindu goddess from indian mythology! Patil's a common surname for people from western india. Padma too is a very common South indian name, i had a friend whose name was Padma!

So, i always knew them to be indian and i think its great that JK included us indians into her books!!!

Ps - Asians are very good looking people too...if u were wondering about that!

I am so glad that they are looking for Indian girls.

When Neville calls Pavarti "Patty" in the 1st movie, I was fearful that they were going to ignore ehnic groups.

One of the nice elements in the Harry Potter books is that she uses different races and types of people. It would be boring if everyone was the same everything!

To Rowling's_Pretty_Gurl, I definatly Agree daniel Radcliffe is extremly hot. But emma isnt a wench, you just dont like her because she gets to be close To Dan.Incase you havnt been told, they dont see each other that way any way. Anyways, That sounds hard to find two asian/idian gurls, that are twin sisters, yikes. They'd be extremely lucky if they found some, then again, theres always makeup!!
Best of luck to the scouts.

I remember coming across this article before. I wasn't a Potter fan then. A friend of mine was crazy about Rupert back then and she so wanted the role. But of course, she wasn't British. Poor thing -- she was heartbroken. I found the whole thing pretty amusing back then but now I kinda sympathize with that attitude of hers because now I know what it is to be crazy about HP!
