Harry Potter creator JK Rowling is Britain's biggest-earning woman of the year. She tops The Mail on Sunday's list of 100 highest-paid women in Britain
having made £100m ($1,772,494) in 2003 due to her earnings from book sales, films and merchandise. Rowling has sold 250 million copies of her first five Potter books and takes a 5% share of the revenues from related products.
Next year she will receive another big payout with the release of the third Potter film - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban from which Rowling will receive a 1% cut of the box office revenues.
Earlier this year she was named the highest-paid author in history according to the The Sunday Times.

I am not 100% sure that I know excatly how much that is? I mean it looks like it is 1.7 million, but I would actually excet it to be a bit more. If it is 1.7 billion, that sounds more like it. I mean book 5 sales were incredible and so I would expect her to make a lot of $$.

Well first I have to repeat what all of you said before: She definitely deserves all the money she earns. For she gave so many people regardless their age throughout the world so much happiness.
And got people to read again. Not just plain hanging around the television any more, but settle down with a good book and use the head instead again.
So this title "highest-paid author in history" means little to me, she deserves a title like "woman of the century", for getting people use their imagination again!

I estimate I am responsible for at least 25 dollars in her royalties this year. She is definitely worthy of that spot, for she gives a large amount of the money she has earned to charities and good causes. Like HarrysGran says, J.K. Rowling is accredited with the work of bringing millions- whether children or even adults- back to the joy and boundless imagination that comes from reading.

She is going from strength to strength. It must be absolutely surreal for her, she is one of our most popular authors, fabulously rich and famous.
And all she wants is to have some peace and quiet with her family.
I hope she gets it.

Whoa nelly, JK is one rich woman. That is a lot of money! But the best part is she donates so much of it to help children in need.
boy, from living in her car and being very poor, she sure has come a long way. But I thought Stephen King was the highest paid author ever. Guess I was wrong.
