First surfaced in May 2003
, new life has been pumped into a rumor that Rowan Atkinson, of Mr. Bean fame, is being considered (or has been cast) for a role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron
for pointing out that Variety has included Atkinson in an updated production chart
.
According to the trade, the film will see Daniel Radcliffe returning as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and will star Rowan Atkinson
in an undisclosed role. Mike Newell will direct a screenplay from Steve Kloves and David Heyman is producing once again. Production is expected to start in April.
Janette Linden his agent said "There's no truth whatsoever that Rowan will be in the next Harry Potter movie."
Warner Bros. insiders also say that no casting decisions have been made yet.

Ugh I HATE that guy. He's so annoying. I really don't want him in my Harry Potter movies. He doesn't DESERVE it.
My guess is that he's playing one of the Crouches. He can't possibly be playing Bagman- he looks absolutly nothing like the description in the book. I'm pretty sure the book says Bagman has blondish hair and blue eyes, he's also not in shape and has a nose that looks like it's been broken.
I would actually really like Owen Wilson to play Bagman (he's have to put on a few pounds); he's got the eyes, hair, nose, and he's has that young boyish thisng the book talks about. Too bad he's not British.

Mr. Bean in HP? I can't see him in any role, plus he's known as "Mr. Bean", and i thought they didn't want actor that were recongized ALOT. Its like the Hugh Grant sistuation, they were going to do him as Gilderoy Lockhart, but he was to Recongizable so they didn't use him. I don't know i don't think its a good idea to put him as a Character in the HP4 movie.

I think he is versatile enough to play something totally different than Mr. Bean. Quite funny in the Blackadder series. I certainly can see him as Bagman, who is a bit of a shady character.

Didn't I hear recently he was in Arizona someplace, being treated for depression? And a week later he is gonna be in the biggest movie franchise of all time? Sounds like a BIG TIME RUMOR to me...maybe someone is just trying to cheer him up? OK, not funny, if he really is sick...(and if he is, would they invest in him by putting him in such an important movie? as far as being big budget, tight schedule, future movies at stake, etc.) I personally haven't seen him in very much, and what I have seen I didn't care for...especially when my co-worker told me they heard awhile back he is supposed to play.......VOLDEMORT!!! PLEEEASE, NOOOOOOO!
(hopefully this is ALL just rumor!)

I don't know about you guys, but I've seen Rowan play Henry the Fifth and other serious roles, the fact is he is a brillaint actor, period. It's not just his comedy that is amazing. Did any of you see Black Adder? Not all of that was comedy. He did some amazing dramatic roles in many many films, t.v and stage productions. Don't sell him short.

Wow. I have no idea what to think about this rumour. Never would I have thought of putting Mr. Bean in an HP film. But, then again, who would have cast Thompson as Trelawney? I am with those who see our beloved Mr. Bean as Crouch. He can be rather stuffy and pompous when needed!

Don't dismiss the man as a goonball if all you've ever seen is Mr. Bean, Rat Race, and Johnny English. I'm assuming that's coming mainly from the American front...so... Didn't any of you see his comedy special on HBO? Well... it was mid-90s so some of you may have still been anklebiters then. Do yourselves a favor and borrow your Mom's Blockbuster card and go rent it. Also, check out Blackadder (any series, but the Elizabethan ones are a personal fave) and then see if you don't change your mind. The bit in his comedy special where he plays Lucifer welcoming the newbies to Hell... brilliance. Still cracks me up.
KARKAROFF. He will totally be Karkaroff. I say this not just because I always, always, always, always imagined Karkaroff as a Rowan-esque kind of guy... but also because there's no other part that would suit him. But he'd be BEYOND perfect for that part. I can already hear him...

Guys, I also read this somewhere AGES AGO... AND they said that he will be playing LORD VOLDEMORT ... That news has been haunting me since... I just cant stand it if he becomes Voldemort because he looks too stupid for Voldemort!!!! I have also posted this news in another forum and, naturally, almost everyone had negative reactions. He might play some extra, but i hope not voldemort. I would rather pick Daniel-Day Lewis, or Jeremy Irons for He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named... But that silly Mr. Bean?!?!?! Ugh!
And oh, someone said above that they would like Owen Wilson for Bagman... I totally agree!!!! Ive been seeing that in him too.... he is just perfect for him!!! It was almost like JKR described Owen Wilson in the book and named him Ludo Bagman!

He would have to be barty crouch right?? I don't think he has the persona to be bagman or mad-eye as bagman is an overweight athlete with a cheery laid-back attitude and mad-eye I see as more of a pirate type of guy!?
I think also he would be a brilliant professor trelawny! hehe

I can also see him as Karkaroff. As some of you said before, he is not only Mr Bean. I really loved the Black Adder series (and I agree with neoepiphany, the Elizabethan age was the best!), there was nothing in it reminding me on Mr Bean! But I have to admit, I just can't imagine him as Lord Voldemort, the actor should be older, I'd like to see Ian McKellen, as he wasn't casted as Dumbledore...
