First surfaced in May 2003
, new life has been pumped into a rumor that Rowan Atkinson, of Mr. Bean fame, is being considered (or has been cast) for a role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron
for pointing out that Variety has included Atkinson in an updated production chart
.
According to the trade, the film will see Daniel Radcliffe returning as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and will star Rowan Atkinson
in an undisclosed role. Mike Newell will direct a screenplay from Steve Kloves and David Heyman is producing once again. Production is expected to start in April.

Atkinson would make a very good Professor Moody. He can get behind any role. Blackadder meets Harry Potter - excellent!

:D I think Rowan Atkinson would make a great addition to Goblet of Fire! But I agree with those who think he may be Mad Eye Moody. He looks the part to me. Just look at his eyes, man. Look at his eyes.
However since that character isn't very comical (compared to most of the stuff I've seen Rowan do) it'll be a new view of him, for me, and I've no doubt that he can pull it off.

Did you mean Sam Neill or Richard Attenborough? (left off Jeff Goldblum since he's not from the UK!)
Rowan Atkinson would be an interesting addition to HP at any rate. I think I'd have a hard time seeing him as Moody or Voldemort (he doesn't seem old quite enough?) but some of these other suggestions -- Karkaroff & so on -- I can definitely see him taking on.

WOW, it's Mr. Bean! He's an awesome actor, I wonder if he'd be playing mad eye moody, he'd need a SERIOUS costume, but, it would be totally great to see him as moody, OR maybe they are finally putting peaves in the movie and the other guy got sick of being peaves? Who knows (shrug). BUT, I'm still really bummed about Ian McKellan, he's a fabulous actor. I'd love to see him play moody, that would be great! And I have just one thought, who's playing Voldemort?
who's playing bill and charlie? I think Bill should be played by...wait for it...Orlando Bloom! That would be great, well, for those of us who are serious bloom fanatics, and I know I'm not alone in that category! ;) (hopefully we'll finally get to see them in the movie, even if it's not orlando)

I wonder if he could be good in that role. I mean i see him as a comedic guy and i would like to see someone serious in the role of voldemort. Hopefully he will play the part well or I would be disapointed. I think Voldemort is a big part in the plot, and hopefully they made the right choice.

Wow! He seems to be a great and versatile actor, so I don't doubt his ability to play the role of Voldemort. I do have one issue with his voice though. He's most famous for Mr. Bean, but what stands out in my mind is his role as the voice of Zazu in The Lion King. (Great movie, by the way, quite possibly the best movie of the previous century!) That voice was definitely appropriate for the part of Zazu, but... Voldemort talking like a little annoying bird!?!?
How does Rowling describe his voice, exactly? Check out these excerpts from "Chapter 33: The Death Eaters" in The Goblet of Fire:
"Robe me," said the high, cold voice from behind the steam, and Wormtail, sobbing and moaning, ....
"You stand, Harry Potter, upon the remains of my late father," he hissed softly.
"And I answer myself," whispered Voldemort, ...
High, cold, hissing softly, whispering... sounds nothing like Zazu's voice. Well, maybe Zazu's voice is high, but it's... an annoying kind of high, not a cold, cruel kind of high. But again, I trust his voice is versatile enough as well to tackle this role. Only time will tell. Meanwhile, let's just wait for Prisoner of Azkaban, which is coming out in 148 and a half days!

WOW! I don't see Mr. Bean as menacing Voldie at all! Maybe Volide has turned over a new leaf and is now a fun loving, mad-cap hooligan?? Got to love rumors! If it turns out to be true we all need to be very afraid! They can ruin a movie with the wrong casting and this guy as Volide, puts them well on their way...

Ok i love "Mr. Bean" in all other movies, like Rat Race and The Lion King, but as Voldemort? Come on he just doesn't fit the part, now maybe he could be Ludo Bagman. I can see him playing that part VERY well, but not Voldemort.

I can see that. He has done more than Mr Bean, the Blackadder series are wonderful and he had some little parts in other films.
The man is quite a genious - he has co-written several comedy series.
But I do agree with Firebolt_909. I am not sure how seriously I can take him as Voldermort, I'd be expecting him to come out with a joke at the most opportuun moments.

I seriously doubt that he'll be Voldemort! IF he gets cast for a role in the GOF, I think it would be Barty or Karkaroff. We have seen a Voldemort in the first film and I think they are gonna try to choose an actor who resembles that image, with the same evil face features.
