First surfaced in May 2003
, new life has been pumped into a rumor that Rowan Atkinson, of Mr. Bean fame, is being considered (or has been cast) for a role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron for pointing out that Variety has included Atkinson in an updated production chart.
According to the trade, the film will see Daniel Radcliffe returning as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and will star Rowan Atkinson in an undisclosed role. Mike Newell will direct a screenplay from Steve Kloves and David Heyman is producing once again. Production is expected to start in April.
for letting us know that The Sun now reports that the British comic actor will play the role of Voldemort, the same rumor as was whispered so many months ago. Remember this has not been confirmed by Warner Bros. and should be treated as a rumor until such time.
Update II: Wizard News has pointed out an article from CBBC Newsround reporting that Atkinson's agent has denied rumors that he is set to play Lord Voldemort, or any other role, in the Harry Potter films.
Janette Linden his agent said "There's no truth whatsoever that Rowan will be in the next Harry Potter movie."
Warner Bros. insiders also say that no casting decisions have been made yet.

I seriously doubt that he'll be Voldemort! IF he gets cast for a role in the GOF, I think it would be Barty or Karkaroff. We have seen a Voldemort in the first film and I think they are gonna try to choose an actor who resembles that image, with the same evil face features.

I sincerely hope that Mr. Bean WILL NOT play Voldemort. I can't look at the man without associating him with Mr. Bean and it's going to do nothing for Voldemort. I don't know about you guys, but I don't see Voldemort as being a comical character. Every time he's on screen I'm going to be expecting him to do something clutzy...can you imagine Voldemort tripping over his robes?

I have to say just one more thing in response to these rumours and it seems, almost confirmed castings -
I cannot, in any way, see Mr. Bean as Lord Voldemort - the resident baddie of the HP films! Whomever is making this casting decision needs to seriously rethink their strategy! Why put someone who is funny in the classic sense into a role so involved in all things dark, manipulative and evil? It just does not fit!

I mean, you never know, he might be an excellent actor playing an evil character, but I'm used to see him as Mr. Bean, so it might be weird. And I imagined Voldemort more skiny, and paler. I don't know, I'd have to see it to juge, but I wouldn't cast him for the Voldemort part.

Count me among those who simply cannot see Rowan Atkinson as Voldemort -- he would have to be an amazing actor to counteract the image he has from other roles he has played. Casting directors have made wonderful choices so far, so hope they don't goof on this very important role. Of course it is not a confirmed fact yet and rumours are fun.

If this rumor does in fact turn out to be true, I will be happy. Rowan is a great actor & everyone knows that any great actor can do any role on screen & do it well. Just because we have never seen him in a serious role does not mean that he can't play one - lets give him a chance to see what he can do.
Many HP fans complained when Alfonso was chosen to direct PoA & from what I can see he's doing a great job.

Very interesting. I don't think that he really matches my picture of what Voldemort should be. Why not use the actor that first played him in the first movie. Although I guess that was animation.
