First surfaced in May 2003
, new life has been pumped into a rumor that Rowan Atkinson, of Mr. Bean fame, is being considered (or has been cast) for a role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron
for pointing out that Variety has included Atkinson in an updated production chart
.
According to the trade, the film will see Daniel Radcliffe returning as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and will star Rowan Atkinson
in an undisclosed role. Mike Newell will direct a screenplay from Steve Kloves and David Heyman is producing once again. Production is expected to start in April.
Janette Linden his agent said "There's no truth whatsoever that Rowan will be in the next Harry Potter movie."
Warner Bros. insiders also say that no casting decisions have been made yet.

Rowan Atkinson would make a good Bagman, although he looks more like Barty Crouch Senior of whom I hope will be played by Eric Braeden. I will not believe the information given by Variety until a spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirms it.

When I got into a casting conversation with my sister, I immediately chose Rowan Atkinson as Karkaroff. He's a good Harry Potter character to me.

Very Interesting! I love that guy, but wonder who he will play. Can't see him as Mad-Eye Moody. Or Karkaroff. Maybe Barty Couch! Couch was a bit of a joker and didn't pay the twins. Althought that would mean he was hopefully signing up for more than one movie. He could be Cedric's Dad, or the muggle who rents the land at the Quiddach World Cup. But the buggle part is kind of small for such a big actor. Hmmm, it will be interesting to see what part he plays.

I think Rowan would be a GREAT Ludo Bagman. Atkinson is just so funny, and thats always how i've pictured bagman. It makes me laugh just thinking of that movie w/ 'Mr. BEaNS' in it ;)

Ludo would be excellent--I agree kaela987!! But not a desperately serious role for him... his klutzy-like hilariousityness is too good to contain...who's Sir Cadogan? (Spelled wrong?) Hopefully a good funny role!
I'm very much very much, extremely excited...who's auditioning?

Oh that'll be cool actually I really like him! And for all those people who are just associating him with Mr. Bean DON'T!!!! Try watching the "Blackadder" series for a true reflection of this man's comic genius! My fingers are crossed for Ludo Bagman personally!

I have no idea who he can play. It seems like this is really a rumour gone too far. But if it is true I think that he should play Bagman. Crouch is way to serious and uptight to be played by him.I wonder what other roles he could play?

Hmmm...I like him, but I'm trying to picture him in any of the possible roles, and am just not getting there. He is definitly NOT how I would picture Ludo Bagman at all- I really would not like to see him in that role. He's too young to be Crouch Sr. and not blond so wouldn't make a good Crouch Jr. either (and besides, Crouch Jr. doesn't show up as himself for much of the book anyway). I don't see him as Karkaroff- besides, isn't Karkaroff supposed to be Bulgarian? Can he do that kind of accent? I admit I haven't seen him in much except for Love, Actually. I do like the suggestion above of Sir Cadogan- THAT I could see! But Sir Cadogan makes his first appearance in POA, and I can't even remember if he appears in GOF at all. Well, at this point it's all rumor anyway, so we'll just have to see.

I wonder who is going to play maybe someone like Ludvic Bagman or someone like that maybe a comedy character in the book. Oh lots of speculation but since it has not been confirmed yet i guess we can't be too excited but if it is my mind will be buzzing with ideas of who he could play.

When I read this I thought of him playing Karkaroff , but he is way to young. I hope they are able to talk Sean Connery in to playing Karkaroff. He fits JK's description!
I think Rowan Atkinson would make a good Bagman (not who I pictured but he'll do).

Ugh I HATE that guy. He's so annoying. I really don't want him in my Harry Potter movies. He doesn't DESERVE it.
My guess is that he's playing one of the Crouches. He can't possibly be playing Bagman- he looks absolutly nothing like the description in the book. I'm pretty sure the book says Bagman has blondish hair and blue eyes, he's also not in shape and has a nose that looks like it's been broken.
I would actually really like Owen Wilson to play Bagman (he's have to put on a few pounds); he's got the eyes, hair, nose, and he's has that young boyish thisng the book talks about. Too bad he's not British.
