According to the next director in the Harry Potter franchise, Mike Newell
, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be the most expensive movie ever made
.
The film, which starts production in April, will cost an estimated £170 million ($308 million), reports the Sunday Mail. That's £5 million ($10 million) more than the entire Lord of the Rings series.
Newell commented that directing a Potter picture carried huge responsibilities:
"I think of myself as being really lucky. I'm going to make the most expensive film there has ever been. These things are not like ordinary films they are world events. I have millions of 10-year-olds who must not be disappointed. Making Harry Potter is like being President of Brazil. It is a colossal undertaking."
Newell also commented that finding an eight-foot-tall French woman to play Hagrid's love interest, Madame Maxime, has caused him a giant-sized headache.
"We are casting right now. I've been in Paris, looking for giant women and French schoolgirls."

I'm not at all surprised that GoF is the going to be the most expensive movie to make. There's so much to the book, and everything from the Triwizard Tournament to the World Quidditch Cup surely would cost a lot of money to create the sets, and all the CGI that would be needed. I can't wait to see how GoF turns out :)

Does anybody know what on Earth Water World is??!! And why are movies like Dinosaur and Wild Wild West up there. Those types of movies aren't going to gross enough to cover the cost. But anyway, I hope it's a good movie.

OH, I'm so so so happy to hear this! :D GOF is my absolute favorite book, and I don't want anything to be left out. So I'm assuming (and yes I know what they say about someone who assumes) based on this information, we should be expecting to see the sphinx, the merpeople, the dragons, and especially, the Quidditch World Cup!
By the way, does anyone have any clue who's playing Fleur and Krum?

Like some people have said, Big bucks does not mean good movie. But I hope this guy does the book justice.
(By the way, how can anyone still be going on about that "asian instead of indian" issue over the Patil twins? The last time I checked, India was still part of the continent named ASIA)

Hm, that expensive huh? Well, maybe that bodes well - that much money should definitely cover a four-hour adaptation. Special effects and sets are expensive, yes, but not that much for a short film. I just hope the money is used wisely, to truly make GOF the best HP film so far!

DaUltimateHPand SportsWiz, WaterWorld is a movie in the 90s about how the world will be when the ice melts, and that there is a little girl who holds the key to 'dry land'. Kevin Costner played some sort of bodyguard to the little girl and her 'mother'(that's the whole thing of the story, but I just can't seem to remember the details). SeaWorld has WaterWorld-based attraction (in 1998, I think), but I don't know if it's still there now.
It's true, a large amount of money does not necesarrily guarantee a film's quality. Take WaterWorld and Wild Wild West. Those are real and good examples of big budgeted 'flop' movies.
But since HP already has a fanbase, it should help a lot with the marketing and sales.
3,8million dollars? That's a large amount of money (probably 1/3 of it for the casts' and crews' salaries, then the rest for production.)
Not really sure though, I just say what's on my mind.
