According to Amazon Franceopens in new window, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be 135 minutes, or two hours and fifteen minutes long.

That falls in line with what Canadian television site CTV reported in January. Director Alfonso CuarĂ³n allegedly said author JK Rowling's story lent itself to a tighter script than the first two films.

Thanks to Winky of Potter World Onlineopens in new window for the tip.

Ugh - nearly 3 hours long. don't get me wrong, I don't care - but think about it. This one is going to be long, the 4th even longer. And parents are going to bring their children into this movie.

I can hear the roudy, tired children now...30 minutes into movie. And they only get worse...

Prof. Andaxia Moonstar says:

Personally, I would like to see a much longer film (around three-and-a-quarter hours), but I can understand their decision - shorter running times mean more showings per day which turns into more money for the studio. However, they are treading a thin line; if the movies are so short they sacrifice plot elements or fan favorites, the studio could end up alienating its most important customers - the loyal HP fanbase. I just pray GOF will not be cut to such a short length; audiences have shown they will reward longer movies if they are done well, with a captivating story (*cough* LOTR and Titanic *cough*).

I really hope they do remember to put everything in there, but I'm sure the story has changed a little because Snape is protecting the trio! Wished it was longer!

Maybe being shorted then the other two won't be a horrible thing. Quality is better the quantity. As much as a hate to admit it, CoS did drag a little at times. Just a little.

That sucks. I liked it when the movies were longer than that. Harry Potter has so much detail, the movies need to be long.
