According to Amazon France
, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be 135 minutes, or two hours and fifteen minutes long.
That falls in line with what Canadian television site CTV reported in January. Director Alfonso CuarĂ³n allegedly said author JK Rowling's story lent itself to a tighter script than the first two films.

2h15 min ?? Well as long as they respect the book, it's fine with me. I mean they're not showing Oliver Wood and it's not like it would've affected the length. But now it's really hard to speculate, when i'll see the movie i'll be able to judge.

I had been hoping for a longer movie, but I guess 2h and 15mins isn't THAT bad...
I'm with you McGonagall. As long as the movie respects the book, it should be great :)

Sounds like a good length to me.
It would be cool if they'd shoot more, and then add it to the DVD. Like LotR, which I had to endure for three and a half hours-I wouldn't mind a three and a half hour long Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. (I don't like LotR, but I do enjoy Orlando Bloom.)

I for one don't consider Amazon France to be an official source of information, so will treat this as rumor until it's confirmed by WB. However, it is in line with the previous unofficial announcement that the film would be less than 2.5 hours. We will see.

That's not bad I guess. I really wanted it to be longer, so it can have all the stuff in the books, but that would be too hard. Just looking forward to the movie!

I really hope this is just a rumour! I can't believe they are making the movie so short! The return of the king was longer than 3 hours! Why not for HP as well?

The length of time the film runs is not all that relevant, I am just looking forward to a really great film, I love what Cuaron has already done I have seen his films so I have complete trust in him for this one.
Bring on the 10th of June[Australia's release date]!

I do hope that they put in all of the important parts of the book. These books are so long, it is going to be hard to make into movies from hear on out. However, my husband brought about a good point, that the books and the movies cannot be exactly the same, and any true fan of Harry Potter has to be a reader of the books.

I'm really starting to get mad here. Why is the longest of the books so far going to have the shortest running time, and the shorter books yet longer movies still left out a lot of content. The more news like this that comes, the more I start to hate Cuaron even more. He's just slowly ruining the whole thing.

That's a good average time for a big movie nowadays. The doesn't matter as much as how well it is put together. I can't wait to see it.

Doesn't matter how long it is, though, something will get left out that someone else regarded as critical.
Maybe JKR will get a better editor for book Six.

Well, I just hope that it is a good movie. It is not going to be like the book, as I have already pointed out (based on trailer and pictures of filming). I hope that maybe when the movie goes to DVD that there will be some additional scenes.

I really wish there was a theatrical release of POA at this shorter length, then a really long DVD/video release for all the fans...but then the actors would have no life of their own, filming everything twice so it would fit together later. At least, if we could stick the extended or additional scenes in our own DVD copies, even if it didn't make perfect sense, I think that would be great.

As long as everything important can be squeezed into a two hour fifteen minute film I will be happy!
I agree with Chogiiiirl - true fans have to read HP books! And the film can never be an exact replica of the book. Though, I would sit through a very long film to see the entire book on screen!

M. Sebastian says:
Actually according to the DVD (not the extended versions) the first and second LotR (Fellowship... and Two Towers) were 2 and 1 minutes short of THREE HOURS. Return of the King was even longer. Which means - if this is true - that Professor Sirius-Ella's post that PoA is only 15 minutes shorter is off by half an hour. Sorcerer's Stone was 152 minutes and Chamber...161 minutes. PoA -- the longest book so far to be filmed will be the shortest film at 135 minutes. At this rate they will cut GoF down to 2 hours or less. What have they done to this film -- I fully realize that much is left out. But why the necessity to cut down to 135 minutes. I hope this in one of those things that turn out not to be true.

Ok i just think its wierd that the first two movies were longer than PoA is gonna be. I personally would have liked it to be 2 1/2 hours or more, BUT as long as they stay true to the book, i guess i'm fine with the running time. They just better not cut any IMPORTANT parts or i'm gonna be pissed. As for GoF, now thats a different story. Its better be more that 3 hours long!

Awwww.... I was hopeing it to be about 3hours or something. I sat through Lord of the Rings which was 3 hours and 30 minutes. I could definetly sit through Harry Potter if it was that long. Eh, i guess 2hrs and 15 minutes isn't so bad :(
