According to the John Williams Fan Network
the soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be released on CD in May - one month before the release of the movie.
Mr. Williams
is currently finishing the score which he will then record in London next month. The first teaser trailer of the film featured the song Something Wicked This Way Comes which was composed and recorded by Williams last year.
On another note, Williams is to receive the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films Lifetime Achievement Award
during the 30th Annual Saturn Awards
, to be held on May 5. His body of work includes Jaws, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, the Star Wars trilogy, Superman: The Movie, and the recent Harry Potter films.

I wonder if this is common practice to release the sound track before the movie is released? Hmm, interesting. I bet it will be outstanding.

The last two soundtracks were pretty much the same, so I hope there's something different about this one. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to change the whole tune of it, but if they've got a new director to put a new edge to the film, they should have some new music.

I've gotten both soundtracks so far and I intend to get the next as well. I use the music in the background when I study. It's very nice! I've been a fan of his soundtracks for a long long time.

Welcome, Dobby the Elf!
I love John Williams' music, it really is music, too, you can listen to it on its own, without the movie, and it stands on its own. Fits the Harry Potter movies perfectly! I remember walking into Borders and hearing the CoS soundtrack for the first time on their headphones...I stood there hogging it for a long time, but I didn't care! I must have this one, too, and will probably wear it out before the movie is even out!

I haven't bought any of the soundtracks yet but that's mainly because I don't really buy CDs.
I have a sneaky suspicion though that come May I'll be dying to see the film so much that I'll be buying every magazine and piece of merchandise that I can get my hands on!

Wow! this is great, and the list of compositions for John Williams is amazing. I never knew he composed the music for Jurassic Park. I loved the music in there. And look here. He's done it again for Harry Potter....The music also seems more mature for POA, nothing childish like it was for the previous two...esp the song (from Macbeth)...and the opening sequence music!
Cant wait...this one is a must have!

Don't the songs usually have titles?? May give us a clue as to what we will be seeing when the film comes out. Wish they would do what has been done with films 2 and 3 of LotR. Bring out a special edition with a specially commissioned figure from the film -- expensive but great for collectors.

I wonder why you would release the soundtrack before the movie is out? And so much before the movie comes out. I can see offering a few days or a week ahead to make sure it is in stores when movie is out... but a month before?
