Thanks to Matthew at Veritaserum
for contacting two people, Emily and Pat, who were present at the exclusive screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Chicago last week for additional comments about the movie. [Beware there are spoilers below and in the interviews.]
Emily's report can be read here
.
The graphic of the werewolf wasn't finished, but I can tell you it looks more like a monster than a wolf, and Padfoot as a dog is animated, not an actual dog. The hippogriff and Whomping Willow weren't finished either, but there is a nice scene with Harry riding the hippogriff on the lake.
For her interview check here
.
Veritaserum.com: How did you get to go to the screening?
Emily: Folks from Warner Bros. were coming around to some Chicago schools, and they went to my friend’s school. A student’s mother who worked at WB was signing up kids, and she gave me the tickets. Well, there weren’t actually tickets.
Veritaserum.com: Can you describe the scene where the dementor gets on the Hogwarts Express?
Emily: Harry and Hermione and Ron are talking about Lupin, I think, and then they blabber on and on about Scabbers, and then everything freezes up when Ron’s hand is on the window. When it freezes, everyone’s breath shows. Then the dementor’s hand comes on, and Harry faints. It’s much darker, with way more innuendo.
For Pat's interview check here
.
Veritaserum.com: First of all could you tell me how you got into the test screening?
Pat: Well, this is the second screening I'd been to; we got into the first movie as well. Then it was just some lady in a mall asking people if they'd like to see a free screening to an up and coming movie, but they wouldn't tell us what it was. My parents decided it would be cool to try, and it turned out to be Harry Potter 1. The same thing happened again, except that they were outside of my sister’s school. They just asked if we wanted to see a screening of a soon to be released Warner Brothers movie. So we invited some friends and went.
Veritaserum.com: How is the Time Turner scene?
Pat: That was pretty cool, in a simple sort of way. You just see everybody moving backwards around Harry and Hermione as they turn back time.

Whats the point of putting in stuff thats not in the book if theyre not even putting in the important scenes? The crookshanks relationship with sirius, and all that intensity and potency of the story itself? whats the point in putting those 'housekeeping...' and all those other gimmicks thatre not in the book if the essential ones are left out? Why did they have to do that!??!?!?!

I am starting to worry how loyal the third film will be to the book after reading the interviews with kids who watched a rough cut of the third film in Chicago last week. I had once thought it would remain a semi-loyal adaptation of third novel in terms of the actual story, but now it seems like Cuaron had to address pointless details more than the actual sub-plots. I mean, all of the plot-lines have a pivotal improtance at the climax. And my greatest fear is that, if the interview is credible on this, the film runs for less than two hours.... If thus, I may not even buy it on DVD. Prisoner deserves better treatment than this from Cuaron, whom I believe is now ignorant of the fact this is the majority of Harry Potter fans' favorite novel if this is the way he has taken the third film.

So far so good!
I hope in the end they can do more touch ups and make the wolf and dog more realistic. I really hope PoA will be better than the two before!

I think Pat was a bit harsh on the film. It can't be that bad! I mean a 6 out of 10, but I suppose we all have our opinions, and they haven't actually finished it yet, so it will probably be better when it is complete. It look's totally awesome to me! I cant't wait to see it, it's gonna be like totally blap!!!

I'm too excited for this movie! Wow, it sounds so good. I don't want to put my hopes up though because I did for the first movie and I was greatly disappointed. Not that I think the movies are horrible or anything but they really don't compare to the books. Still, from what I hear about PoA, it's going to be a big improvement!

There was a screening so close to me, and I didn't know about it??
I agree with whomever mentioned the looks of the movie, and not how the story is told. I'd rather hear about the latter. I guess I'm not too worried, anyway. I still can't wait that long... Only 91 more days!

I hope some of the scenes change before June 4th. Its kinda depressing hearing about the movie ending by a freeze frame of Harry's face. And they put the Firebolt right in the end!! Oh my gosh..Plus the first interview with that Emily girl really made me mad when she said that the movie was only like a hour and forty minutes long!! ahhh!! Oh my gosh! Ill cry if its only that long! :(

Yes, I would have just gone because if it's a new movie that's a sequel I woudl have guessed it to be shrek 2, which is something I would also like to see. From Pat's review I'm worried though...especially about the ending.
