Thanks to Matthew at Veritaserum
for contacting two people, Emily and Pat, who were present at the exclusive screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Chicago last week for additional comments about the movie. [Beware there are spoilers below and in the interviews.]
Emily's report can be read here
.
The graphic of the werewolf wasn't finished, but I can tell you it looks more like a monster than a wolf, and Padfoot as a dog is animated, not an actual dog. The hippogriff and Whomping Willow weren't finished either, but there is a nice scene with Harry riding the hippogriff on the lake.
For her interview check here
.
Veritaserum.com: How did you get to go to the screening?
Emily: Folks from Warner Bros. were coming around to some Chicago schools, and they went to my friend’s school. A student’s mother who worked at WB was signing up kids, and she gave me the tickets. Well, there weren’t actually tickets.
Veritaserum.com: Can you describe the scene where the dementor gets on the Hogwarts Express?
Emily: Harry and Hermione and Ron are talking about Lupin, I think, and then they blabber on and on about Scabbers, and then everything freezes up when Ron’s hand is on the window. When it freezes, everyone’s breath shows. Then the dementor’s hand comes on, and Harry faints. It’s much darker, with way more innuendo.
For Pat's interview check here
.
Veritaserum.com: First of all could you tell me how you got into the test screening?
Pat: Well, this is the second screening I'd been to; we got into the first movie as well. Then it was just some lady in a mall asking people if they'd like to see a free screening to an up and coming movie, but they wouldn't tell us what it was. My parents decided it would be cool to try, and it turned out to be Harry Potter 1. The same thing happened again, except that they were outside of my sister’s school. They just asked if we wanted to see a screening of a soon to be released Warner Brothers movie. So we invited some friends and went.
Veritaserum.com: How is the Time Turner scene?
Pat: That was pretty cool, in a simple sort of way. You just see everybody moving backwards around Harry and Hermione as they turn back time.

I think if people that are even in high school like these movies or even grown ups they should be able to see that movie before it comes out too.

I wish I had'nt read that now , I wanted to be surprised. I am listening to all the audio tapes of the Harry Potter books . I decided not to listen to Prisoner of Azkaban because I didn't want to watch the movie and be waiting for certain things to happen. Because they will undoubtedly have to cut somethings out. This way I will enjoy the film.

Once again I didn't read these reviews. Hey, it keeps the movie interesting. It's not like I want to know evey little thing in the movie. Then when I go see it I'll be looking for those parts and not even pay any attention to the movie. But I have read some posts and it seems like the biggest thing is about special effects. The movie is not perfect yet. It was only a screening. There's no reason whatsoever to get so worked up about them. I'm still hoping for the best and I know that the movie can't stray too much. I mean there's Chris Columbus there and JKR. I'll pass my judgement when the movie comes out and I watch it.

Sounds interesting. I have been very intriguied by how the special effects were progressing, as I used to take computer animation and particle systems at college until I realized I did not like actually doing them! The effects in LOTR were fantastic, and I hope that POA has equally awesome graphics.
I too have been wondering why we haven't heard much about the performances of Rickman, Oldman, and Thewlis. I hope this is because of anti-spoiler tactics, and not because their presence goes unnoticed.

The more reveiws I read, the more excited I get! Just a few more months to go, right? Actually, I would almost rather wait to see the movies when all the effects are done then to see them incomplete. That way it's more real to me.

I wonder how Chicago gets so lucky to have all of this happen?? It would be awesome to be walking in a mall and be asked to preview an upcoming movie, especially once you find out that it's Harry Potter!!!
