Dan doesn't dialogue with online fans Popular (10022)

Actor Daniel Radcliffe's father is urging fans not to respond to people who claim to be Dan online, as he never communicates with fans in that way. According to the plea, received this morning by DanRadcliffe.comopens in new window and DanRadcliffe.co.ukopens in new window, a girl and her mother from Chile showed up at the Radcliffes' door recently, after supposedly talking to the Harry Potter star via e-mail:

Dear Jenna and Page,

In the light of an unfortunate incident which happened at our home yesterday I would be grateful if you could post the following message from us.

We received several calls at our home during the morning from a girl who had travelled from Chile to meet Dan. When we explained that this was not possible she became upset. Later in the day, when Marcia and I were leaving our house the girl and her mother appeared asking again to see Dan - again we said he wasn't there and we don't encourage visitors to our house which is strictly private.

Again, the girl became very upset and distressed - and this is where it became very worrying for us as Dan's parents on behalf of Daniel's fans. She presented us with two e-mails from someone pretending to be Daniel who said he were hoping to see her in London. Daniel has said this in his newsletters and I must reiterate: do not respond to anyone saying they are Daniel and certainly never travel to London to see him on the strength of a very dubious e-mail.

Daniel never communicates with fans via the Internet or e-mail for this very reason - he doesn't want anyone to be duped into corresponding with someone pretending to be him. For his fans' sake and safety there are no exceptions to this rule and anyone claiming to be Daniel Radcliffe is, I'm afraid, lying.

We felt extremely upset that this girl had been tricked in this way. PLEASE don't let it happen to anyone else.

Any help you can give us on this matter to protect Dan's fans will be very welcome.

Many thanks.

ALAN

tht's soooo sad. I would have traveled that far to meet a harry potter actor. Imagine how she felt, she was clearly excited about meeting daniel radcliffe. its not her fault that someone pretended to be him

that's so sad and pathetic. I feel bad for the Radcliffes for having to be bothered by a dumb Chilean who doesn't realize that international child stars would never talk to them. human idiocy never fails to amaze me.

I really feel sorry the first time I read this article in another site. I mean, it's not entirely the girl's or the mother's fault if they went over to Dan's house and all that. if i happened to know Dan's whereabouts, i might prolly sneak to the place, but never try to step a foot on their premises. It's just crazy. Let's just imagine how much money those two had to shell-out because of some silly joke over the net. If it's anyone's fault : it's the poser's. I would have killed that person. Really. . .

But you see, it's just---just---STRANGE. There have been a lot of notices around the net, to be VERY careful with people who put up as if they ARE the actors...there are tons and tons and I myself have been fooled once, and luckily, soon enough i woke from my trance and bashed them at once. They should know where to stop. That's one thing for sure.

Let's just hope nothing else like this would happen again.

Such a sad, sad, story.

But if i were Dan's dad, i would have fixed for the foreigners for some snacks perhaps, OUTSIDE the house, maybe in some restaurant, and just talk it over there---and I'll bring Dan along with me. They should at least earn some credit for that. Imagine, going miles away from home, spending way too much for the tickets, just to get nothing in return. I really would have done with a nice afternoon chat with them, even if i was, alone, the father of the person they were most anxious to talk to.

An awful thing for both parties but hey some of you are pretty mean calling the poor girl stupid. I've seen a few posters on here who seem to think they've spoken to Tom Felton ... I'm not sure where the difference is.

It is valuable lesson though, could have been a real creep posing as Daniel. Awful.

WOW, that must have been very embarassing for EVERYONE!! I wouldn't have gone unless I actually meet them in the street or something but what are the odds of that happening?! But I know that there are some really obbessed people out there that would do that, but just imagine you being famous (which is really hard to start with) and someone showed up on your door step and said that they had talked to you on the internet but they actually didn't, thats scary, sad, and a little funnie! but more scary and sad!

I think Daniel should have been the one to tell the girl herself that he never emails his fans, ever. Not his parents. She would more likely believe him, than his parents.

I personally feel that it was stupid on the part of the girl to go to England all the way from Chile just to meet Daniel. But yeah, I do know how crazy die-hard fans sometimes behave.
