Actor Daniel Radcliffe's father is urging fans not to respond to people who claim to be Dan online, as he never communicates with fans in that way. According to the plea, received this morning by DanRadcliffe.com
and DanRadcliffe.co.uk
, a girl and her mother from Chile showed up at the Radcliffes' door recently, after supposedly talking to the Harry Potter star via e-mail:
Dear Jenna and Page,
In the light of an unfortunate incident which happened at our home yesterday I would be grateful if you could post the following message from us.
We received several calls at our home during the morning from a girl who had travelled from Chile to meet Dan. When we explained that this was not possible she became upset. Later in the day, when Marcia and I were leaving our house the girl and her mother appeared asking again to see Dan - again we said he wasn't there and we don't encourage visitors to our house which is strictly private.
Again, the girl became very upset and distressed - and this is where it became very worrying for us as Dan's parents on behalf of Daniel's fans. She presented us with two e-mails from someone pretending to be Daniel who said he were hoping to see her in London. Daniel has said this in his newsletters and I must reiterate: do not respond to anyone saying they are Daniel and certainly never travel to London to see him on the strength of a very dubious e-mail.
Daniel never communicates with fans via the Internet or e-mail for this very reason - he doesn't want anyone to be duped into corresponding with someone pretending to be him. For his fans' sake and safety there are no exceptions to this rule and anyone claiming to be Daniel Radcliffe is, I'm afraid, lying.
We felt extremely upset that this girl had been tricked in this way. PLEASE don't let it happen to anyone else.
Any help you can give us on this matter to protect Dan's fans will be very welcome.
Many thanks.
ALAN

What in the world was her mom thinking, she shoulda known that it wasn't going to be him. But the emails, must have been really convincing, for her to travel that far.
There are alot of weirdos out there in the internet world. But the guy/girl that set the little girl up was bogus, very bogus

Poor girl. That's what i can say. They didn't mentioned how old she is, so i think she might around 12 years old. She just a kid, where only a little young kids could be cheated as simple as like this.
Anyway, it could happen to anyone even to older one, yea, imagine that suddenly some boy telling you that you're lucky one meet 'me', Daniel Radcliffe! Of course you might be mad of it.
The important thing right here is, DO NOT BEING SOMEBODY ELSE EVEN YOUR FACE 100% JUST LIKE DANNY or any actor and actress in the story, please!

That is really sad that she believed it to be Daniel R. It also must be a little scary for his family. I hope that those imposters are found, and not allowed to trick kids again.

I feel bad for that girl. I don't know how old she is but I think the parents maybe should have checked into it a bit more before just flying out.
It just makes me sick that someone would pretend to be Dan & for what? What is the point??

I feel sorry for all of them - the girl must have been very young and the email very convincing for her to travel all that way. And it must be very hard on the Radcliffe's - I'm sure they felt very sorry for the girl, but also scared that these things can happen. What is wrong with people? Why would someone go through so much trouble to create such a mess? As a parent, it's very scary knowing that these things can happen on the internet. I don't think the girl was smart, but I wouldn't call her stupid - you don't know what the emails said or what you would do if it was you. Unfortunately, some people are just naive and too trusting. It's just sad.

That's so sad. People who does that kind of thing it's because they don't have a life.
I think that it's ok that Dan doesn't comunicate with fans by internet but sometimes, at least once, he should do a chat so everyone can enter that day and talk with him. It would be cool.

How many parents would take their child that far to see their favorite actor? I blame the parents going to such lenghts with an un reliable source as email as well as the ones prentending to be Dan.

Oh bless that girl in so many ways! Firstly, why on earth would she travel that distance on the strength of two e-mails and secondly, just bless her!
I know we are all crazy Potter fans on this site but I also know that most of us have enough commonsense to not believe people who say that they are so and so or even related to so and so. I would hope anyway!

Wow, I feel so sorry for that girl. Imagine travelling that far and having spent all that money, only to discover that it was a hoax!
Seriously, who does that kind of thing?
It's not remotely funny!
And Dan, I imagine him as a very private person, having fans showing up on his doorstep every so often!
I'd like to thoroughly slap around the person who is responsible for this.

I can understand a young girl getting her hopes up and believeing that she were really talking to Dan Radcliffe on-line, but where was her mother's common sense?
I guess it could have all been a ploy?

I have to wonder if this prank was not done by someone who is not just a net troll but someone who knows the family, especially to know the phone and address. Quite sad, really.

We shouldn't be bashing the girl and her mother...we have no right to judge. Stuff like this happens, and we have no right to pass judgement on her. Please be more considerate of her feelings....I'm sure if it was you, it would be heartbreaking to see or hear people calling you "stupid" or "naive". Those posers are really convincing, and I should know cause I met a lot of them, and sometimes believed them until I figured out they were posers. So don't judge...have a little compassion...after what's the girl went through, she deserves at least that.

You misunderstand me. Just because I called it a pathetic occurence, didn't mean I belittled the girl. If I came across that way I apologize. It's pathetic because:
A: Her mother facilitated the event
B: Dan's family could have handled it better and not have made them feel so small
C: No one, and I say this as a Potterhead, should so worship another human being that they would traverse the globe on an off-chance to see them.
It is "C" that makes all of this truly pathetic. (RE: Pathos=sympathy pathetic therefore means worthy of sympathy) I love the Harry Potter world and if I were to freak out over someone it would be JKR. She is, alas, a human, like me or you or all of us. For anyone to be worthy of worship, they should somehow be above humanity. Ergo fan worship is pathetic because it enshrines the unworthy.
Again my apologies for sounding rude. I just regret that a world I have so much love for (i.e. Harry and all things Harry) is so often sullied by those of us that can't keep our heads on straight.

That kinda sucks for the girl! Thats pretty clever and thoughtful for dan to do!!! I feel bad for the girl that was duped like that. People who do that really have problems and are incredibly mean people too. Well... i guess that means dont trust anyone that says they are some one because they might not be who they say they are. That was an odd experience!

I feel angry at the person who pretended to be Dan. I think we should give the girl and her mother a break. Everyone can be tricked, I think, if someone finds the right button to push. I also think they were probably going to London anyway, and didn't go there only because of the emails. The Radcliffes probably didn't let her see Dan because if they did and word got out that you could see him by dropping by, lots more would try to do it.
