First reported by The Leaky Cauldron
last week and corroborated by a CBBC Newsround report, the premiere of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban looks likely to be held in the U.S., debuting May 23 in New York and marking the first time a Potter movie has premiered state-side, while the London premiere is set for May 30.
The dates are unconfirmed officially by Warner Bros. and tickets are not sold for the events:
Warner Bros, who make the films, won't confirm the dates yet but insiders say those dates are almost definite.
They also don't want people ringing them to try and get tickets because they won't be available to the public.
CBBC also points out that May 30 is Memorial Day weekend in the U.S., when a lot of the country shuts down. That would make a U.S. premiere on that date unfeasible. The following weekend, June 4, is the general release date of the movie in the U.S., UK. See our PoA movie news page for a list of dates around the world.
Update: Further confirmation of this rumor is seen on German site Harry Potter Xperts, where they have posted up an e-mail from the Odeon Leicester Square theater which says its will be hosting the premiere there on May 30.
Update II: IGN FilmForce has learned that the world premiere will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York on May 23.

The only thing I can say is that I can not wait for the movie, I don't care about the premiere if there is not premiere here in mexico jajaja I only want to see the movie!!!! I'm a bit upset with the magazines here in mexico because they are not giving so many importance to POA but I'm sure that this is going to be the best movie of the year even with the pasion of the christ!!

I would hope all the arrangements have been made for the premiers already, even if they don't want to confirm the dates officially, you can't make those kinds of plans overnight. They must have known for some time now what would happen where and when. Unless I win the sweepstakes to go to the London premier, I won't be going, anyway, will have to settle for a webcast from the red carpet or something.

Thats cool that we know when they will premeire but i am not going to fully believe that information until warner brothers offically announces that to the public. rumors like this are to be taken seriously only after an offical word comes out.

I can not believe this! I actually come from New York but I am in school here and wont be going home until the 25 of June. I would have loved to see the premiere in New York. But, what will most likely happen is that they will only allow certain people to be invited and some people that might have won tickets in contest! But, I will be seeing it on opening night here in the UK so I will be happy none the less!! Can't wait!!!
