First reported by The Leaky Cauldron
last week and corroborated by a CBBC Newsround report, the premiere of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban looks likely to be held in the U.S., debuting May 23 in New York and marking the first time a Potter movie has premiered state-side, while the London premiere is set for May 30.
The dates are unconfirmed officially by Warner Bros. and tickets are not sold for the events:
Warner Bros, who make the films, won't confirm the dates yet but insiders say those dates are almost definite.
They also don't want people ringing them to try and get tickets because they won't be available to the public.
CBBC also points out that May 30 is Memorial Day weekend in the U.S., when a lot of the country shuts down. That would make a U.S. premiere on that date unfeasible. The following weekend, June 4, is the general release date of the movie in the U.S., UK. See our PoA movie news page for a list of dates around the world.
Update: Further confirmation of this rumor is seen on German site Harry Potter Xperts, where they have posted up an e-mail from the Odeon Leicester Square theater which says its will be hosting the premiere there on May 30.
Update II: IGN FilmForce has learned that the world premiere will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York on May 23.

I will not trust the information provided by an unidentified source until Warner Bro. officially announces the dates, and even if the dates were credible, it would not matter a lot to me as I live in Iowa -- no chance of ever seeing a premiere from here. Corn and soybeans growing is all I'll see in late May...

It would be pretty easy for me to get to New York, but how does one go about getting tickets to a premier? I doubt that they will be available on Fandango.com. Although it would be pretty fun to see the red carpet parade of stars!

Well it was definately on that letter from Tom Felton and the date makes sense. Both Rupert and Tom have their GCSE exams this May/June and May 30th is a Sunday and the next day is a national holiday in Britain so they will not have a disadvantage in their exams!
Too be honest I really don't doubt the London date but we'll see about the New York one :) I hope its sunny then - I wanna catch a tan whilst standing around in Leicester Square!

I agree with the first poster. The information will not be reliable or accurate until it comes from Warner Bros. I would actually be surprised if the London premiere occurred second. I would think you want all the actors at the very first premiere.

Gollum Smeagol had the right idea. I'd like to know who these "insiders" are! However, I think it is interesting to know the actual dates of the premier even if we live far away and couldn't attend, because there is sure to be interesting news coverage of the premier, including interviews, on that day.

That's lovely that there are "insiders" "leaking" out the information, but until a Warner Bros. representative or someone confirms it, I don't trust it. Personally, I dont get why the US one would be first, it only seems right to have the first premiere in London.
