ABC's May 9 presentation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has deleted scenes edited back into the film by director Chris Columbus.
The disclosure was revealed in a Video Store Magazine article
, Wizard News reported
today. "It will be the first time the movie has been seen this way," said a Warner Bros. spokesperson. "Director Chris Columbus went back and added 20 minutes of footage to the actual movie."
U.S. television network ABC is debuting Sorcerer's Stone on Sunday, May 9 in a four hour telecast that will feature the extended version of the film, interstitials with the movie's stars in which they take viewers behind the scenes, and a 10-minute sneek peak at Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which hits theaters this summer.

This information makes me wonder if they are going to re-issue a new version of the movie with the deleted scenes added back in. I would love it if that was the case. I love the LOTR extended versions they are much better than the originals... I only hope they reissue new editions with this material added back in!!

I'm very excited to see the extra footage added in!!! The deleted scenes answer a lot of questions about the original cut. I hope they are going to sell it as an extended version on DVD!!! I'd buy it in a heart beat. I'm guessing a lot of other people would to. SO, Warner Bros... just give it a thought!!!

Oh wow oh wow oh wow. That is so cool! Finally, taking after Peter Jackson. I have to get my tape ready and vcr ready. They should make it easier and put it out on DVD then. Actually, they probably will eventually.

I hope Warner Bros. decides to release an Extended Edition of the first two films if they have deleted footage for both, assuming from above, that didn't reach the second disc. Now, if we have two discs of footage (the commentaries, including J.K. Rowling, would consume a lot of disc space), why not manufacture two discs of special features that, unlike the original DVDs, have not any kiddy games? I enjoyed psending two entire weeks working my way through all of the features for Lord of the Rings -- they were so many of them that I had to trudge through the swamp slowly! They'll probably release the Extended Editions for all seven films a year after the release of the original, theatrical version of the seventh film on DVD. I will not tolerate having the new footage on a low quality tape -- could the fan-sites fix it if Warner Bros. refuses to heed our requests?

Hmm, I know what I will be doing May 9. I wonder if they will release the extended version on DVD; I prefer it when the scenes are put back into context. Hopefully, more films will start doing this, seeing how the LOTR Extended editions have done so well.
