According to this Hollywood Reporter article
, Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) is joining Tom Cruise and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity from The Matrix films) in Mission: Impossible 3, which is starting production later this year:
Although there is an expectation that he will be unmasked as one of the villains, few details were available. Cruise will reprise his role as agent Ethan Hunt.

Kenneth is a really good actor, he can pull everything off! (Still my favourite Hamlet!) Why is it that it's always people with British English accents that are the villains? :o)
MI films are very exciting, but how many times can you rid the world of evil?
I REALLY hope that Mr. Branagh will be returning for the filming of Order of the Phoenix! Please don't cut his part, I loved it so much!

Hahahaha, oh lord, now how about that! I really can't picture him in that movie (which will, without a doubt, suck greatly!). He did a good job in CoS, even if he was too old for the part, since he's a very talented actor - but this I really don't know about..

Well, if this isn't a change of genre for Branagh, I don't know what is! Has he ever made a successful modern day film? All I know is, when I think of Kenneth Branagh, I envision old Shakespear plays and Hamlet, for sure! To see him as a character in MI:3 is going to be interesting. It might actually make me go see the third film...
And they better keep in the Prof. Lockhart scene from OotP - it is too good to cut out. Besides, that is when we really find out what happened to Neville's parents and how he feels about it. Part of the evolution of his character, I think!

I agree with everyone who said that in spite of the fifth film condensing everything in the book within three hours (or even 165 minutes) that Kenneth Branagh, if he desires to, returns to portray Lockhart at St. Mungo's Hosptial in order to introduce us to the Longbottoms -- who could resist more of Lockhart's amusing ignorance? Joining a more action is a certain change in the roles he plays.

That's great for Kenneth Branagh. He's a good actor and did a good job in the Chamber of Secrets. Perhaps he'll return in Order of the Phoenix. Gilderoy does have a scene in that book.
