According to Internet reports, a zealous fan has apparently learned the title of JK Rowling's sixth Harry Potter book.
Posted to an online message board
, the information was supposedly gleaned from a secret area on the author's official site
(behind the locked door). The message, written in first person and discussing book six's progress, is dated July 1, which coincides with the expected monthly update of Rowling's site:
01/07/04
Erm... it is perhaps time for me to reveal the title of Book 6! I am nearing completion of the first draft and have definitely decided upon a title. I had numerous possibilities in mind, but as I wrote, I realized that only one did the book justice.
The more clever Potter fans may recognize that the title relates directly to both Order of the Phoenix and Chamber of Secrets. I will be highly amused if one of you can guess exactly what's going on!
On a side note, the length of the book is growing so fast, I could swear Filius has put an Engorgement Charm on it; an editor's nightmare! I promised myself not to exceed the length of Order of the Phoenix, but every day that passes makes that undertaking more difficult. Incidentally, I have much more work ahead.
Alas, the time has come! Here is the reward for you lot that so diligently figured out all the puzzles on the site. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, I will reveal to you the title of Book 6!
The title of Book 6 is: Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé.
Earlier, the "secret area" in question was simply a locked door that led to a book whose pages were filled with lorem ipsum -- filler text
that is often used when designers are laying out a page (print or online) so they can better visualize how it will look when finished. Rowling commented about it
on her site last month after a hacker found his way in.
Consider Pillar of Storgé an unconfirmed rumor (and keep in mind that "PoS" does not make a very nice acronym). If it's true, however, you might be interested to know the meaning behind "storgé":
From the Greek word storg, pronounced stor'gee (like psyche), in use in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries to mean natural or instinctive affection, usually that of parents for their offspring, but no longer current. (The natural affection of parents for their offspring.)
Update: Check out this great site
brimming with everything you could possibly want to know about the whole debacle. MuggleNet also offers up some reasons
why this could just be an elaborate, well-executed prank.

Call me naïve, but I BELIEVE IT! --it sounds very much like a possible title to me...
I don't suppose those who don't bother to read all the articles and just keep asking "what does storgé mean??" would ever read these posts, but, just hoping, I'll copy&paste the explanations here:
The Greek language has four words for "love": 1. Agápe In Latin, it is c(h)aritas. As English has the verb "cherish" from this Latin noun, the correct noun in English would be cherishing. It is unselfish love as taught by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount and is summed up by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13. 2. Philía is the love between friends. This Greek word has the idea of emotional love. While Agápe emphasizes the complete giving of love to another person, Philia emphasizes affection, emotion, or fondness one person has for another. 3. Storgé or familial love, especially the love between parents and their children or other close relatives. 4. Éros, which has a pagan sexual sense, a Platonic philosophical sense, and a Christian sense. The basic meaning is attraction. It goes beyond physical attraction and includes embracing, longing, and caring. Information on love in the Greek language from theorderofthephoenix.net, which offers some theories relating to Storgé here, under Topic: Weasleys and Topic: Greek Love.

This is probably just a rumor, as there have been loads of them flying around lately about the title of book six. And I don't know how anyone could have gotten into that secret room, as I have been trying for ages. But I really wish the note is true. The title is quite cool and I hope book six is about as long as OotP.

If this is to be the title it sounds like a brilliant word rediscovered by JK Rowling, which may become part of the 21st century.

I used to have doubts about this. But when I think it through, it's just a very clever scam. The idiot hacker used American spelling! I didn't notice at first because I'm used to both American and British spelling. But now that Mugglenet has brought that passage to our attention, I see it.
Sorry, Mr. Hacker, but your scam fell through. You've got to be smarter than that to beat us Potter fans!

Well, the possible new name sounds interesting. Although I can`t see J.K. Rowling using some different language in the title. It has always been an english title only. However, the new one sounds as interesting as always. I am going to keep my eyes open to see more about the title.

I don't know if this rumor is true! Everybody has their theories but some people try a little bit harder to get theirs across than others and they usually turn out to be untrue.
Well I suppose we'll see won't we!!!

Well that article on MuggleNet made me even more skeptical, it doesn't seem like JKR in the errors she made and how it was brought up on the site. So I hope it is offically said to be untrue soon.

I'm soooooo happy!!! and I'm not even sure whether i believe this rumour!!! I'm 99% convinced it is true....this is why:
1. the title sounds believable (JK always comes up with strange names!)
2. That door had to be there for some reason!!
3. JK said herself that the close watchers of her website would be able to pick up news about the next book!
4. I just don't see why someone would make something up like this!! And after all technical glitches do happen!! I believe that the door was meant to open on 1st July to everyone!!
Maybe I'm just being gullibe!! I don't know!! Maybe i just want it to be true SO much that i'm mkaing myself believe it!! :@)

Hmm... I think the other title that we believed it to be before sounded more viable (Fortess or Ancient Runes) I just think this one sounds way out there in my opiinion. I'm not really sure if I believe this. I am quite curious as to how that HP fan hacked his/her way behind the closed door, I was obsessed with getting behind it for a long while but then gave up for a while. I'll wait for official word from J.K. Rowling herself before I believe all this stuff floating around on the web.

The part that gets me the most excited (if it's true) is JKR stating the book is longer than she had anticipated. I have been hoping she wouldn't be able to make it shorter than the others and now I'm crossing my fingers it's as long or longer than OotP.

At first when I found out about the title of the 6th book on mugglenet.com, I was excited. But now I am doubting more and more that it is the real title because people are finding convincing evidence against it like how the message was written using the American style of writing. It sounds like a great title though and I can't wait to found out the truth!
