The recent news that the title of book six would be Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé have been floating around the Web for a few days, but author J.K. Rowling has confirmed
what many fans have suspected all along - that the rumors about the title were a hoax.
According to her spokesperson the title is "definitely a hoax" and now Rowling has updated her site with her take on the rumor, as well as answered some frequently asked questions people have sent her -- check out the FAQ & Rumours section.
In her own words:
I am trying very hard not to feel offended that anyone thought this was possible. 'Storgé', for crying out loud. Come on, people, get a grip.
Also, thanks to MuggleNet for letting us know that the 'Do Not Disturb' sign has been removed from the door and it opens to reveal a brick wall -- will hitting the right sequence reveal something (like the real title to book 6)? Go and see!

Hmmm. Glad to hear that Pillar of Storge was just a rumor. I'm not sure how I feel about Half Blood Prince, though. Even if that is supposed to be the new title, it could easily change. Rowling said in interviews before Goblet of Fire came out that it was supposed to be called HP and the Quidditch World Cup, then she changed it.

i am getting tired of all the obessed fans out there who are making up titles. i know it is fun to speculate, but stop trying to make ur own theories or speculations fact... it is giving me a headache. Of course, i want to know the title of the next book just as much as the next person, but C'MON! I have been to JKR's site...and i see the Half Blood Prince thing... but i think it is a trick....

Marvolo Dumbledore, this isn't a rumor. Once you figure out the combination of bricks to get into the room, you click on the fan, which will blow the papers toward the screen and one of the papers will come into the foreground and "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" is typed on it.
I, for one, am pretty certain this is the real title, though I, too, will wait until it's announced in a more unambiguous manner until I am absolutely certain. I like the title and I'm already coming up with loads of theories! Fun stuff! :D

At first is sounded a bit corny, but well, didn't Order of the Phoenix sound a bit freeky when it was still a rumor, but when JKR confermed it , we embraced it like a long lost friend! People who have trouble getting the title use the picture of the wall found on mugglenet.com. There are five bricks. The sequence: topmost right, bottommost right, the one below the highest brick, the lowest, the highest. Then when you get to the room, click on the fan on the table.
