It's official. The title of book 6 will be Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince according to author J.K. Rowling, who officially confirmed the name of book 6
under the News section of her Web site:
Well, the door opened at last and I showed you the title of book six - the genuine title, the title that will appear on the published book, the title I have been using in my head for ages and ages. Unfortunately, however, the door opened on the very same day the 'Pillar of Storgé' hoaxer struck, which left a lot of Harry Potter fans bemused as to whether I was having a joke at their expense by posting another fake title to 'teach hoaxers a lesson', something I certainly wouldn't do, as it would simply frustrate, confuse or annoy the 99.9% of you who aren't hoaxers! I tried to give a clear hint that the title behind the door was the real one by making the 'Toenail' joke as well (see 'Rumours'). But just to clear up matters once and for all…
Information you take directly from this site will be truthful and accurate (I might occasionally joke, but as time goes on, you'll learn to tell when I'm joking). Do not trust anybody else claiming to have found information on this site that you cannot access, however seemingly convincing the images they provide to support their story.
I never post information on the site that I do not want fans to read immediately. In other words, anybody claiming to have 'discovered' a message that wasn't due for release yet is lying. There was never anything meaningful behind the door until the 'Do Not Disturb' sign came off!
Read the rest of what she has to say, including who this "Half Blood Prince" might be (or definitely isn't).

The Half Blood Prince will probally be someone we kno, just haven't heard alot about. Someone like maybe, Nevill, after all, we found out in Order of the Pheonix that him and Harry had something in common. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named could not live while a certain "equal" lived. The only reason Harry lived was because of his mother. So either him or Neville could be V. equal.

Voldemort and Harry Fan says:
NO, NO, NO, ELOGA, YOU HAVE IT ALL WRONG!!! Dumbledore explained that it can't be Neville. Neville hasn't met Voldemort, so he can't mark him as equal. The prophecy says that Voldemort will mark him as equal, and he will have power Voldemort doesn't know. This could only mean Harry, for he has been marked equal, and he has his mother's love in his blood. Neville has no extraordinary power. I also feel that half-bloods are going to be very important, so it makes sense for it to be Harry, not Neville. For these reasons, Voldemort's equal is not Neville.

Okay, I know this sounds weird, but I think that if Harry
doesn't get an O on the Potions O.W.L., he will die in
book 7. If he doesn't get a NEWT in Potions, he probably
can't be an Auror. The only other possible profession for
him would be DADA teacher at Hogwarts. It could be the
DADA teacher curse that kills him in book 7 though... Oh
well. My theory is if he can't become an Auror, he won't
have a purpose in his future, so JKR will kill him. Since
Mr. Weasley is the Minister though, he could probably get
a job without meeting all the requirements. You can't know
for sure, though. JK Rowling is very unpredictable.

It was a very good surprise. Nobody got even close to the title.
The Half Blood Prince will be a new character, just becuse JK introduce us to the titles in the books themselves.

Voldemort and Harry Fan says:
I was talking to my friend, and we determined that according to the prophecy, neither Harry nor Voldemort is truly alive. Neither can live while the other lives, so neither of them is alive. This is why Dumbledore did not aim to kill Voldemort. It is impossible to kill either of them. Their wands don't work properly on each other, but Lily saved Harry as a baby. He did not have his wand yet to deflect the spell. It would seem then that Voldemort cannot kill Harry with Avada Kedavra, but Harry can kill Voldemort with it. Voldemort can only kill Harry by pushing him through the veil in the Department of Mysteries or by Muggle methods. After Harry kills Voldemort, however, a Death Eater could kill him. Until the final battle of Harry vs. Voldemort, as I see it, Harry is invincible.

If Petunia is a witch, or one of her parents is a squib, Dudley is a half-blood. Hagrid is a good option...maybe that's why Dumbledore kept him so close...JKR said someone will show magical power late in life, though. To me that says Petunia, Dudley, or Mrs. Figg.

[b] I think that the Half-Blood Prince is Hagrid. The other book that "Half-Blood" was a possible title for was "Chamber" and it could have gone into much further detail about Hagrid's background. She also does not say half- blood what. Dumbledore has kept Hagrid as game-keeper and allowed him to stay on the grounds, etc. There are many references as to Harry and Voldemort being similar, but also many similarites between Hagrid and Harry.

Voldemort and harry fan.Perhaps the D word you are searching for is DISTRACTION.Sirious faked his death. He disapeared before he hit the veil.Harry is,in the eyes of most people the mst important person in the wizarding world as it is only he who can destroy voldemort. Therefore he does not need to worry about Sirious all the time, after all it was him that led Harry to the department of mysteries and voldemort knew this and used it to his advantage.Another thing if he really was dead he would want to communicate with Harry more than anything so nearly headless nick lied at the end of ootp. The reason he could not communicate with him is beacause he is not dead mark my words.

This really isn't my favorite title... Wonder who the
Half-Blood Prince is. It'll just have to wait until the book comes out. That will be the day... I'm sure I'll have the 6th book done in few days, and I know it. Once me and my friend GinnyWeezly challenged eachother to see who could finish the the whole HP series first. After about three or four days (I don't know exactly), I asked her how far she was, and she said that she was only still on the 1st book. I told her that I was half way through the third. Well, we decided to quit, because GinnyWeezly just told me, "You win." No offense Ginny, it's true. I PROMISE that you can write anything about me, and I won't hate you. (Hopefully you don't now!) Well, that's my proof, hope it works.
I'm wondering if the half-blood prince is one of Voldermort's bodys. He's already been in Quirell's body, so I'm thinking he went into the body of a prince, it's just I don't know how he would be "half-blood". Hopefully it tells in the book, which it probably will
Thank you to everybody who took the time to read this comment. It probably was a tedious process.
I have made my point.

P.S. SORRY GINNYWEEZLY!!!! I am sorry I mentioned the contest.

Voldemort and Harry Fan says:
Kees,
I liked your recent ideas on Sirius very much. I read the part where Sirius dies, though, and it said that he indeed fell through the veil. There was only a fluttering sound, no popping sound to suggest disapparation, but Dumbledore could've made the archway a portkey. "[Harry] was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wand, as Dumbledore turned to the dais too." At the point where Dumbledore "turns to the dais" he could quickly point his wand at the archway and say "Portus" under his breath. That would probably override its normal function because of Dumbledore's great power. The room seemed to go quiet when Sirius was hit, so Sirius definitely couldn't've gotten away with disapparating without anyone hearing.Lupin could've been about to say, "He can't come back because he's distracting everyone."
The portkey probably would'nt have been to the headquarters in case Bellatrix fell through it, but it could've been a place very close so Sirius could just go right in.

I like what Kees (and) Voldemort and Harry Fan said. I mean, Sirius could have lived. But theres one problem. When Harry goes back to the Headmasters office and Dumbledore comes too, Dumbledore said he won't take all the credit for Sirius's death. And Dumbledore said that he loved Harry to much to see him in pain. So if sirius is still alive why would Dumbledore watch Harry suffer and not comfort him by saying that he still is alive, unless Sirius is truly dead?

I am pondering the thought that Hagrid is the Half Blood Prince. We know for sure that he is half giant/half wizard. We don't know much about his father other that he was a kind wizard.

Aurora Riddle says:
The HBP can't, well maybe it can if something new is revealed, be Hagrid. Number one: Hagrid's mother was kicked out of her giant tribe, so even if she was a 'queen' , and I am not sure giants even have 'queens', she lost the title when she was evicted. Number two: Only male giants can be gurgs, so, like I said before, females really are there just to reproduce, not to rule. He is half-blood, I will give you that. But the word 'prince' is the one I am having trouble wrapping my brain around...mind you it is small and scares easily , but still I do have reasons why I think this! The Gurg of a giant tribe is basically the biggest and meanest, also not to mention toughest, giant in the tribe. His placement at the head of the tribe has nothing to do with blood, but everything to do with brawn. I rest my case...I think...

I personally don't think that it is Hagrid. Sure, he's a half-blood, and Dumbledore has kept him around for 54 years since he was expelled, but I think Hagrid would be too obvious. I think that it is James, Dudley, Snape, Wormtail, Dobby, Lockhart, or Crookshanks.
