Book 6 title confirmed by JK Rowling Popular (66295)

It's official. The title of book 6 will be Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince according to author J.K. Rowling, who officially confirmed the name of book 6opens in new window under the News section of her Web site:

Well, the door opened at last and I showed you the title of book six - the genuine title, the title that will appear on the published book, the title I have been using in my head for ages and ages. Unfortunately, however, the door opened on the very same day the 'Pillar of Storgé' hoaxer struck, which left a lot of Harry Potter fans bemused as to whether I was having a joke at their expense by posting another fake title to 'teach hoaxers a lesson', something I certainly wouldn't do, as it would simply frustrate, confuse or annoy the 99.9% of you who aren't hoaxers! I tried to give a clear hint that the title behind the door was the real one by making the 'Toenail' joke as well (see 'Rumours'). But just to clear up matters once and for all…

Information you take directly from this site will be truthful and accurate (I might occasionally joke, but as time goes on, you'll learn to tell when I'm joking). Do not trust anybody else claiming to have found information on this site that you cannot access, however seemingly convincing the images they provide to support their story.

I never post information on the site that I do not want fans to read immediately. In other words, anybody claiming to have 'discovered' a message that wasn't due for release yet is lying. There was never anything meaningful behind the door until the 'Do Not Disturb' sign came off!

Read the rest of what she has to say, including who this "Half Blood Prince" might be (or definitely isn't).

It must be really embarassing to have a Harry or Voldemort theory about the HBP after [b]JK Rowling herself said that neither are the HBP[b].

For my two cents, Hagrid is the Half-Blood Prince. He's half-Giant, maybe even a Prince among the Giants, and the Giants are supposedly very influential in the upcoming War of the Wizards...

I wonder who the half blood prince could be. J.K. said it was neither Harry nor Voldemort, so who could it be? Neville perhaps, or are both of his parents pureblood? I'm not sure, I'm just glad we got the whole Storge thing sorted out!

Hooray...the actual title. I like HBP...It intrigues me. So I am sitting here at my desk (with my copy of CoS in my lap) skimming it for clues... and wracking my brain as to who the "half-blood prince" could be. I have a list...

Do ANY of these sound remotely plausible?

Ok, first JK said it's not Harry or Voldemort, so they're right out, and it can't be Neville or even Snape because they are both pure bloods. (althout when my son suggested Snape I thought it would have been a good twist).

That leaves Seamus (uh...no...don't think so!)To me Seamus is just NOT the princeley sort in any way shape or form...which means it will probably turn out to be him, but for now I can't even contemplate that. :)

Then there is ...

Dean- He is a much more likely choice since in his bio on JK's site she says that his biological dad had run off and unbelnownst to his wife and son was a wizard-(and apparently a pureblood since he was killed by death eaters when he refused to join them)

Then we have...

Hagrid. I know, I know...HAGRID you say? But he IS a half blood (granted it's half Wizard/Half Giant but still)and we don't know too much about him. It has always struck me as interesting that Dumbledore kept him on after he was expelled. That could not have gone over well with anyone (when he was suspected of setting a giant monster loose on the students) so there had to be more to it than mere benevolence on Dumbldore's part. Maybe he kept Hagrid close for the same reason he kept Trelawney close...maybe Hagrid too has some greater part to play in all of this?

The only other person who I wondered about is Dumbledore himself. I mean has it ever been stated definitively that he is a pureblood? I don't remember. It would be interesting if it turned out to be him, seeing as how his and Harry's relationship is a bit shaky at the moment and he IS the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared (as they are always saying...)

Anyway, there are my musings, such as they are. I really have to spend less time thinking about this stuff...hahaha

Cool! Now we have a name for the next book... I wonder who the Half Blood Prince is? I kinda hope it would be Snape, but maybe the Prince isn't alive anymore? I mean it could someone from the past.. Like James or Siriur, well Sirius is pureblood but anyway..

Rectilinear Propagation says:

I have heard (or read) somewhere that there aren't going to be anymore new characters. If this is true then the HBP is someone we know (but not Harry or Voldemort).

We know for sure that Dean, Seamus, and Justin are half-bloods. I like the idea of it being Dean because we know from JKR's site that there is a whole history for Dean that she has wanted to put in the books.

We also know it can't be Neville, any of the Weasleys, or (obviously) any female character. I think it probably isn't anyone in Slytherin. Most or all of the male Slytherin characters that we know are from families claiming to be pure-bloods (and have family in the Death Eaters). It probably isn't any one in the Order that Harry doesn't have regular contact with. It very likely isn't Filch; are you considered a squib if one of your parents is a muggle?

We aren't told the parentage of most of the other characters but we know from Hagrid that most wizarding families had a muggle relative at some point. So we can't count out character like Micheal Corner.

I also like the idea of it being Vicktor Krum just because I don't think we've seen the last of him.

Finally, are we sure that 'Prince' means actually having royal blood? For JKR to literally mean prince the HBP's father would have to be a king.

This is frickin' awesome we get to know the title and the people who are saying that they didn't like it don't judge the book by the name. I have waited for along time for this and i think it is quite obvious who it is Lord Voldermort. It always said that Voldy's Dad was a muggle. Harry is suppose to be a pureblood. If harry wasn't Malfoy would know and he would call him a mud blood.I just hope that this story has a awesome storyline it probably will its JKR writing it! Wonder when it comes out.

Interesting, i thought that this title was just a hoax too..but if JK's said its not, then im convinced. Now every one will be woundering who the half blood prince is, there are so many obvious characters it could be...i wounder if JK would chose a minor character for it?

Heres a thought...what if its hagrid? His mother (a giant) and father a wizard..hes a half blood..hes male...his mother was a clan leader i think..maybe he will be the prince of the giants?

I'm so happy! Yes, the book title is revealed! I just hope she gives out more information about when it'll be out and stuff. I'm re-reading the 4th book (haven't read it in a long time) because I need to remember stuff for the movie, and then I'll be on the 5th again. Hopefully by then she'll have the 6th one out!

Wait, no Harry's mother was a witch! Helloo....witch as in she went to Hogwarts? Her parents might have been muggles but she definetly was a witch. Harry just has "not-pureblood" blood him, along with the Potter side.

hermione~granger says:

I have been considering all of the people that it could possibly be:
Seamus (because it is reinforced that he is a half-blood)
Hagrid (also reinforced, but a different kind of history) i liked the idea of Hagrid being prince of the giants [maybe his mom was queen.])
Dumbledore (do not know history)
Is Tonks an only child? maybe she has a brother or she has a son with another half blood. i remember Sirius saying in OotP that his parents thought to be a Black made you like royalty.
I read on here that Snape is a pure blood. I was just wondering where we learn that because apart from the fact that he is head of Slytherin house, i can't remember any of the books saying he is pure blood. I may be wrong, though. I just thought mayber that's why his parents argued so much.
Lupin (we don't know his background, only that he was bitten by a werewolf very young. i would assume (never assume) from this he was pure blood. Umbridge refers to Lupin as a "half-breed" but wasn't he a full werewolf?[i don't know where i'm going with that.])
I also thought maybe the Prince part wasn't literal and maybe the new minister of magic would be a half blood. (but all JKR's titles have been literal.)

Sorry, I kind of rambled on!

Ok, "AngelaVB11" am sorry to say that Lily Evan is a muggle-born not a muggle herself, therefor Harry is a pureblood.

And I am also happy to see that someone thought of Draco, as well.

ok, ok. So even though Lily was witch and James was wizard, that doesn't make Harry a pureblood? I always thought it did. I'm confused now!!!
