Harry Potter author's third child won't delay book 6 Popular (84032)

JK Rowling announced on her web siteopens in new window this morning that she's expecting a third child, due next year.

"Fingers crossed of course, I don't foresee any baby-related interruptions or delays," she said. "Let me reassure you that book six remains well on track."

The author, who has sold over 260 million Potter books worldwide, said she always wanted three children. "I could not be happier," she added.

Of the recently announced sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince:

Now, I know that many Harry Potter fans first reaction will be what does this mean for the timing of book six? (I'm not maligning you… I'm sure you're happy for me... but I know you really want that book!) So let me reassure you that book six remains well on track.

I still can't say for sure when it will be finished, but I have written a lot and I really like it (a reckless challenge to fate, that; I bet the next chapter goes horribly wrong now).

Awww. I am excited for her! But something tells me that if she says it won't delay the 6th book then that must mean that it will come out before her baby is born... But I could be completly wrong about my little theory. Although I hope I'm not wrong...

Congratulations Jo! May this child bring the happiness the other two have....

I personally can't believe that people are concerned about the timing of the book around her pregnancy.

Even though I would like the sixth book to be released soon, I really don't want her to push herself against people's expectations. If she pushes herself to get it finished rather than let it flow naturally, its likely that some of her charm and style will be lost in the proces....

Babies are always happy news! And I think it's a good omen that she will be finished with book 6 by then, although it may not be on the shelves for months after that. If it were me, I would want to be finished with the writing by the time the baby came. Book 7 should be quick to write, there is no more foundation to lay out for future books. But for book 6, I think 2005 is a pretty certain thing.

I wonder what she meant when she said she'd "written a lot."
That could be interpreted in many ways...

Congratulations on your 3rd child Ms. Rowling! My sister just had a little girl back in February, and guess what? Her name is Luna!! Half because of the luna in your books, and also because she was born on a full moon! Thank you for your magical books... You are truly a blessing to this desolate earth.

THAT'S GREAT NEWS! Congrats to being a mom to a third child. I just hope she doesn't overe work herself, by trying to take care of her kids, and trying to take care of book six. Don't get me wrong, i really want "prince" to come out asap, but even though she's having a kid, she will HAVE to take somet time off to be a mom. That's great though, cause being a mom is more important, at least i think so. But even if it doesn't affect book six like the pervious post said, it'll probably affect book seven and delay that. At least that's my thoughts
