JK Rowling announced on her web site
this morning that she's expecting a third child, due next year.
"Fingers crossed of course, I don't foresee any baby-related interruptions or delays," she said. "Let me reassure you that book six remains well on track."
The author, who has sold over 260 million Potter books worldwide, said she always wanted three children. "I could not be happier," she added.
Of the recently announced sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince:
Now, I know that many Harry Potter fans first reaction will be what does this mean for the timing of book six? (I'm not maligning you… I'm sure you're happy for me... but I know you really want that book!) So let me reassure you that book six remains well on track.
I still can't say for sure when it will be finished, but I have written a lot and I really like it (a reckless challenge to fate, that; I bet the next chapter goes horribly wrong now).

Congrats to JK and her hubby! That is wonderful news that she is expecting and was nice enough to share the news with the fans. Personally I think she'll get the book finished and submit to her publisher before the baby is born. After all early next year is a long ways away. Plus she won't want the stress of trying to finish the book with two other children and a newborn! That way the 6th book would be released the summer before Goblet and we'd wait a year or two for the final book..we certainly don't want that to be rushed!

Of course, I am glad for JK what with 3 kids being what she always wanted, but what I'm really pleased about is that bk6 must be coming out sooner than most of us thought. She said it wont affect how long book 6 takes, which means she expects to have it finished in well under 9 months, because obviously giving birth and caring for a new-born child would affect it! - though I don't know how long printing etc takes!

I kinda was under the impression that she was done with the book since we got the title. She's still writing chapters? This could take a while. *tears* I was just rereading the 5th book in anticipation that the next one would be out in at least a year or less. Man! At least I know now but I really hope she finishes soon!!

Good for her! i have heard on some sites that she wanted to hae a third child so she got wat she wanted. So she says that this wont effect the book so let me think she should have her baby around may or june something like that so the book will come out a little after that. I dont know if any of that will be true im just guessing.

It doesn't mean that it will be released in the next nine months it means that she will be done writing her final draft and ready for publishing in the next 9 months. That would take another 6 months or so. I think that she will probably get her book done in about 5-6 months and then it will be out in the next 11-12 months. I think that works out wonderfully. But yes, congrats to her!

That's really great for her.... The reason she says that book 6 is still on track is because it's not going to come out for another 2 years.... I think that was always the intention....
