Two of Tom Riddle's prop diaries used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets have sold on eBay in a private auction for over $4,000 combined.
An "Original Tom Marvolo Riddle Diary"
received an opening bid of $1,700 but went to the winner (and second bidder) for $2,125. A "special effects" edition
, which featured tubes that squirt black ink through the cover, was purchased for $1,900 using eBay's Buy it Now feature, which caused the auction to close early.
The two books were used during various filming of the second Potter movie in 2002.

I would have thought with all the hoopla over HP that they would have brought a higher price. Just wish I would had the money to bid on them.

I am glad the diaries sold for so much.
I cannot imagine paying thousands of dollars for a book that has been soaked in bathroom water, stolen, dropped into water again, punched through with a basilisk tooth, bled all over and stuffed with a dirty sock! But I guess some people would call it a collectible!
I hope whomever bought it is very pleased!

For me, what they are doing, buying the diaries at such prices, are outrageous. But when someone wants to own original memoralilias from a famous franchise such as Harry Potter, that person won't mind reaching deep in his/her pockets, just to get what he/she wants. It's only natural.

I agree that it's a lot of money to pay for a prop but then again there are some collectors who consider it a worthy investment so more power to them, I personally can find better things to do with that amount of money.
