First scooped by fan site The Leaky Cauldron
, Warner Bros. today confirmed
that Miranda Richardson
and Ralph Fiennes
have been cast as Rita Skeeter and Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Ralph Fiennes (Red Dragon, Maid in Manhattan, Schindler's List) and Miranda Richardson (The Hours, Sleepy Hollow, The Crying Game) have joined the all-star cast of Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's popular Harry Potter novel series. Fiennes will play Harry Potter's nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort, and Richardson takes on the role of muckraking journalist Rita Skeeter.
Previously cast as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Mad-Eye Moody is Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, who can currently be seen in M. Night Shyamalan's latest film, The Village. CBBC Newsround also points out that Richardson played Hermione
for Comic Relief.
For a full list of the cast, please read the press release.

I really don't think that he looks the part of Voldemort, but that's ok. I really don't know enough about him to make a judgement. Same with the woman playing Rita. Oh well, the casting directors haven't failed us before have they?

I'm very pleased with Warner Bros casting for GoF. I think Ralph Fiennes will make Voldemort as evil as we've all envisioned him. It will be interesting to see the make-up/costume work they do. Heck, it'll be interesting to see this entire movie. I can't wait!!!

PowerGranger says:
Excellent!!! Like Theodora said, if you don't think Ralph Fiennes can look (and act) evil, you haven't seen "Shindler's List." He will be perfect for Voldemort. I never really pictured Voldemort as very old, since he was at Hogwarts the same time as Hagrid, who may be sort of grizzled, but he's not super-old. Also, as Ginny Weasly and a few others said, look at the earlier casting choice for Tom Riddle! You'd think the character would age well on the screen if he was played earlier by Christian Coulson.
One thing I noticed in the press release is that Julie Walters' name is missing. No Molly Weasley? Is this a confirmation that the movie may start at the Quiddich World Cup, rather than at the Weasley's (since we already know the Dursleys aren't being featured)?

I'm glad they finally came out and confirmed these things!! And I know people were hoping that the role of Voldemort wouldn't be released, but it would have eventually been spilled anyways, and you couldn't have avoided it for long...

Wow, I'm glad that the rumors of Fiennes as Lord Voldemort are true. A pat on the back to the casting directors for adding another British male hottie to the HP cast! And Fiennes is perfect for playing the Dark Lord...he gave me shivers during "Schindler's List!"
