I so wish I could have been there. I bet it was mind blowing. She always just gives enough to fuel the theory fires and leave us wanting more. I so glad that the book will be out soon. I'm a little jealous of those of you in the UK. I bet it was awesome.

My streak of optomism has finally been shed and I now realize that HBP will probably be coming out next summer. Which really kind of stinks because i don't want to wait that long. I WANT IT NOW! And i don't really care for the info she gave us (actually someone should research the name McLagan). Alright well I guess we all have quite a wait before we get the book so i am gonna go carbon freeze myself. Goodbye.

YAY! This makes me happy. :) Seeing that she is halfway done, and this could mean we are in for a long one. and does this mean that voldemort will die?! Anyways im happy with all the clues. :)
And what about this McLagan..hm..might have to start a discussion about him.
I think the answer to her second question is that dumbledore knew he couldnt defeat voldemort, cause only harry can..

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Shes only HALFWAY done!!! that means we are going to have to wait FOREVER until the 6th book comes out.
The prophecy:
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...born tho thos wheo have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies...and the Dark Lord will mark him as equal, but he will have the power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..."
Cone on, the question that Rowling told us to concentrate on is obvious! "Either must die at the hand of the other" DUMBLEDORE CAN NOT KILL VOLDEMORT! Harry has to be the one to do it because he is the only one that has the power!

Of course Harry would survive to book seven -- J.K. Rowling planned to have the novels based on each of years at Hogwarts.
All of the tidbits she revealed excite me for the novel, but why doesn't Harry have a fairy godmother? :)

Omigod! I was just randomly getting onto hpana at eight thirty this morning, you know, still a bit groggy and stuff, and when the screen came out blasting "Harry to survive Book 7; Rowling 'halfway through Potter 6'" I stared stupidly at it, but now I am awake, really awake! Finally some concrete information for us to chew on! YIPPEE!

I am so thrilled to have a little bit more information on the upcoming books, I just love to speculate on some theories:D) I hope the HBP will be out by Christmas though. I agree with you Tonks Black on the answer to the second question.
I think the answer to the first may be that Harry wasn't strong enough yet to face him at his full power, he was still just a baby.

Ah, yes, now that i think about it, i might know the answer to the first question! I believe i read this somewhere on the site..
Voldemort didnt die, because the curse coming back at him was part of the prophecy- it was the process of marking harry as his equal.

I think people are confusing your headline statement HPANA. She said Harry will survive TO book 7 but may not after that, meaning he survive through book 6 and might die at the end of the final book.
Of course I believe he will survive the final battle but that is NOT what she is giving away at the moment.
Oh well.
Oh and grrr that she's only half way done. It's going to be a looooonggg wait for the HBP.

What a wonderful event for all the Harry Potter fans! It is exciting that Ms. Rowling answered some questions and has given us somethings to ponder on. Maybe, just maybe, she will finish book 6 by the end of this year and we'll actually have it in our hands by June of 2005. Now that's exciting!

The first half of any novel generally takes longer then the second half. She has been doing a lot of planning, carefully mapping it out. Now that that is all done it should be smoother sailing. I am interested in this new character. It must be the last name of the character, I have never even heard a passing reference. Could this be a new DADA teacher or some other important person?

Ack, I wish I wouldn't have seen he was going to survive! I really like scaring myself into thinking someone's going to die. :D
I'm still happy though, but I'm worried when it says she "refused to confirm whether he would grow up to be a wizard". What's that supposed to mean? He's going to die shortly after the book, he's going to lose his powers? Arg, she just created more questions now that we know he's going to live!

I think the new character is probably a DADA teacher, otherwise, it could be someone from the Ministry of Magic or something else very important. I agree that the book wil probably be a lot easier to write, since she has the plot and characters all carefully written down. Hopefully the book will be done as early as next summer, since it is going to be shorter than OotP. I can' wait!!
