Many fans awoke today to news that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had taken down the "Do Not Disturb" sign once again on a door at her official site
.
At first it appears to be an empty room, but there's a bit more to it than that, and the prize is certainly worth the trouble. Here are step-by-step instructions for those who can't be bothered to figure it out on their own:
Highlight the following block of text to read the excerpt here: He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.
Thanks to everyone who let us know!

A lovely, unexpected surprise although if the methods to get to the clues is this complex now imagine what it'll be like to find out the book 7 title! All good fun and don't forget to vote for HPANA on Mugglenet!

This is really great. I love the new JKR website and it is a lot of fun to find all the clues. She is being really smart in how they hand out the tidbits. I can hardly wait for the book, which my guess will be sooner rather than later.

Wow! That was so complicated. I didn't even bother trying to do it myself. I was too excited to find out what was behind the door.
It's interesting that I'm one of the few who's been able to post on the first page of comments with news as big as this. My heart nearly skipped a beat when I read the headline on Mugglenet.
I wonder who this new character is...
J.K. Rowling is awesome! How do people figure out the puzzle? It was a lot more complicated than the brick wall.

(**SPOILER for everyone who hasn't read the excerpt**) This is just so cool! Who could she be talking about here? Maybe the HBP? Then it could be Gryffindor (think about that "lion" simile). But knowing JK never gives too much away, the information provided here might not be vital at all. Cool, though.

Very interesting and surprising that JKR would release an excerpt. Nevertheless it only makes us wonder who the character is and want to read it more. Were any excerpts from OotP released?

My computer won't let me on to the site!! It will eventually, but still...and also, didn't JK say that Aberforth Dumbledore was the barman at the Hogshead? And I could be completely crazy, but doesn't Dumbledore have spectacles and bushy eyebrows? I dunno, I could be wrong...

beowulf says:
Let me help a little with this... First, open the door. You should see nothing. You will need to click in the black area to find a new light switch. The area is best described by drawing a line from the period after "K" (in the "J.K. Rowling official website") going down AND starting just a little below (and I mean _little_) the window-sil and drawing to the right. The intersection of these two lines is very close to the light switch. Be patient, it is a very small spot!
