Many fans awoke today to news that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had taken down the "Do Not Disturb" sign once again on a door at her official site
.
At first it appears to be an empty room, but there's a bit more to it than that, and the prize is certainly worth the trouble. Here are step-by-step instructions for those who can't be bothered to figure it out on their own:
Highlight the following block of text to read the excerpt here: He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.
Thanks to everyone who let us know!

Sounds very much like someone else who may be an animagus.
Neat description, although a bit wordy for my tastes. Be interesting to find out who it is describing.

Curious, how a 3 line extract can provoke enough excitement on these boards to create a 288 comment discussion.
Its not even an interesting extract.

Well I was pretty late seeing it and I think I missed it. But at least I still got to read the excerpt. Yes it is definitely a description of a new character.

That's pretty cool, but since I'm reading this really late, it's not working anymore and that sucks. I need to go to her website everyday so I won't miss anything.

Yay. I love when you find out information behind the door. Good thing the instructions were posted because I definately would not have been able to figure them out on my own. I wonder who the new character is. I wish that there was more information because Jo always leaves us hanging, desperately wanting more information. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. all these little bits of info make me really excited and anxious.

I think there's a good possibility that he is the DADA professor, but even if he's not, I'm pretty sure he's an animagus who takes the shape of a lion.

He could also be Aberforth. In fact, Aberforth could be the new DADA teacher.

Tonks! says:
Whoah! Aberforth as the new DADA professor. Aww, and here I was hoping for Tonks. Ah well, that still sounds cool. But I bet Dumbledore wasn't too happy assigning his brother the role as DADA professor.
Or maybe he was?
Oh well, Dumbledore is weird, but I still think he's cool. Shrugs, oh and if JKR ever comes across this site...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Off to jump off the walls with happiness!

Tonks! says:
Wait...I should have maintained Aberforth as the rumoured DADA professor.
Though knowing JK, I'd say this could be a small, minor character like Elphias Doge or something, who will not serve as much of an interest to the plot structure. But who knows? JKR is unpredictable.

New theory
Compare these excerpts:
Order of the Phoenix, Page 82: Harry felt...Crookshanks, Hermione's bandy-legged ginger cat...
Order of the Phoenix, Page 84: Crookshanks...large yellow eyes glowed in the darkness.
Half-Blood Prince, Page ??: He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.
I'm just throwing theories out here, but whoever this guy is , he sounds a lot like Crookshanks, maybe even his human form. I know Crookshanks is part kneazle, but if an animagus has a predestined animal form, might that form be all or part magical beast? Please reply.

I wonder why she put this out there. I mean what does it mean anyway? It has to be the Half-Blood Prince, otherwise, why would she think it important to post that particular excerpt?
