Contrary to reports
published over the last week, Harry Potter author JK Rowling has vehemently denied creating narcissistic Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in the image of her ex-husband.
The character, played by Kenneth Branagh in Chamber of Secrets, was brought up when Rowling was asked at the Edinburgh International Book Festival if she had ever let real acquaintances influence her story's cast:
The only character who is deliberately based on a real person is Gilderoy Lockhart ... I have to say that the living model was worse. He was a shocker! The lies that he told about adventures that he'd had, things he'd done and impressive acts that he had committed...
Apparently the Sunday Mail, a tabloid which started the rumor's perpetuation amongst more reliable press, interpreted Rowling's comments as "revenge" on her former husband, Jorge Arantes, whom she was with for two years.

Yeah i would love a character based on me too, even if it was ex-Professor Lockhart. Oh well, she has squashed those rumours though. I wish that the press would just leave her alone and let her write the books though.

Tabloids suck big time!! They're always in the stars faces and never leave them alone. It never occured to me to think that Gilderoy Lockhart was based on her ex, but I'm glad that it's not. It shows character of JK Rowling to not try to base a character on her ex husband.

I read somewhere that JK did base Lockart on somebody that was close to her. She didnt say who it was but she said that she did get inspiration in some of her characters from people she knows or has met. <----- Just read it somewhere and is probably just a rumour.

The tabloids will do anything to get some money, and making Lockhart seem as though he was based on JKR's ex-husband was not a good idea. I think it's an insult to Jo to come up with things like this.

*Sighs* I feel sooo sorry for people who get rumours rolling around in stupid tabloids.. I mean, tabloids are just reputation ruiners! They have no purpose! They should, like, be banned! I mean, just look at what tabloids did to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen! (Drugs, etc.. Rubbish..)
