Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena
.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso Cuarón, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes
from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."
Thanks to OdFHP.com
and our own Geri for the tips.

A woman director would be neat... But like they said, it's entirely too early to be thinking about directors.

Yeah I know Mira Nair...
She makes kinda....alternative types of movies. Not so commersial ones. She made that Hysterical Blindness for HBO(for which Uma Thurman got an Emmy). She is O.K. for making uhm, "adult" movies(most of her movies are R-Rated). But a movie for HP series?
Nope, I dont think so. Though I know she is a very good director.

Wow, I hope this possible director is really good. I just watched one of Alfonso Cuarón's movies yesterday (Y Tu Mama Tambien), and I was blown away at how he'd ever been asked to direct POA! Really, it's a miracle that his name ever came up!

O.K.
So I cancelled my party trip.
But to tell the truth i would love somebody like Cameron Crowe to direct HP movies.....yeah i AM being biased.
Columbus isnt a bad choice for a director either....he IS still the producer aint he...?
I'll throw up if he isnt the still the producer coz most of the film's basic things ARE approved by the producer.
After makin up my mind....I VOTE FOR Cameron Crowe.....it doesnt matter if my vote counts or not....but still....Crowe is very good in makin cool teen-movies.....look at "Almost Famous".
If my VOTE counts and we end up having Crowe....trust me....there will be a lot of rather cool stuff in the movie.....but i wouldnt want important stuffs to be cut off from the movie and weird stuffs to be added either....for example.....wat the hell was up with the talkin head in the "Night Bus" sequence?
I dont think it is dramatically or artistically a big step towards making a good movie.

It's surprising that you guys don't know who Mira is... maybe Vanity Fair will ring a bell??? well, she did a real good job on Vanity Fair... i think she is a great director... but so far. i still like Alfonso better. i mean his films are just so wonderful, the Little Princess was really touching and PoA was awesome... he should keep on working on HP films... i think he is great!!!
It'll be interesting to see how Mike is doing... hee hee. it's always interesting to see how different directors are, when they are working on the same series...

I still think they shuld give the kiddies a break. In a way I'm glad that their already thinking about OotP, shows some orginisation, but a break is really in order (thats really not saying that I want to wait a whole extra year.)
Also, I have said it before, and I'll say it again. I pity the poor soul that gets stuck directing OotP. If people are worried about scenes being butchered from GoF...well need I say more?
As for the director...not very familiar with her works, I have heard of Vanity Fair but not watched it. I'm getting more and more hesistant where directors are concerned. It is getting to the most important part of the books, and to me atleast, it seems awfully risky bringing in a new director...I was iffy about Mike and GoF but so far its sounds promising. I really would mind Cuaron doing the fifth, I loved his rendition of PoA.

Well, I don't know who she is. I am sure this is just a rumor for now. As long as the director stays close to the book, I'm sure it will be good. I didn't think that the script had even been written, although I do think they need to start thinking about OoTP. The time to start filming is going to come fast. If this does end up being true, I hope she does a great job. That book is one of my favorites in the series.

I highly doubt that they would pick a director one year before the movie starts filming and before they even have a script ready... so im just taking it as a rumor.

Im pretty sure that its just a rumor, because there all busy filming GoF, so most of their attention must be focused on the task at hand. I havet heard of Mira Nair, so it really wouldnt be fit for me to form an opinion. however, now that her name has popped up on the Harry Potter radar, i would be intrested to see her direct. Does anyone know what movies she has done?

Well, I don't know who this is. But, I'm more concerned with the fourth movie right now, so I won't worry about the director of the fifth one. Although, I saw somewhere that Mike Newell was thinking about maybe directing the fifth one too. Also, I think they mentioned Chris Columubus too. Oh well!!! I guess we'll find out soon enough!
