Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso Cuarón, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."

O thats cool I think I have heard of her but I've never seen any of her movies but its a rumour and let GoF finish and then we'll think about OotP! I would like Alfonso directing it though PoA was the best one yet.

Anyhow, I heard that Vanity Fair is supposed to be good. I don't know; it hasn't come out yet:) But whoever directs OotP better make it really good, or we'll all have something to say about that....

I want Chris Columbus back! I've heard critics criticize him for staying "too true" to the books but I don't think that's possible. I fell in love with the books first and do not want them chopped up. I want the man who created orinially created the visions that once only occupied my imagination to come back and film the final three. If I can't have him then I just hope it is someone who will keep the movies a little more closer to the books than POA. I really loved the movie, but everytime I watch it I have to pretend I've never read the book.

I haven't heard of Mira Nair until today, after reading this article and her filmography. I found out that she directed Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon. I thought that Mike Newell was maybe going to continue and do the 5th movie as well as the 6th, but I do not recall. I only wish that Alfonso Cuarón would come back and direct, because he was awesome! I think the only reason I like the first Harry Potter movies is because they're Harry Potter movies. With the third movie, people who are not fans should even enjoy it.

Okay, so it's a rumor? Hmm...I hope they find out soon what's going to happen with the Order of the Phoenix movie. But still, can't hope too high because GoF is still being filmed! I really loved what the third movie looked like though so maybe Alfonso will do the fifth just to make me happy?

It is probably a rumor. I kindof hope that they don't keep changing directers every movie so they flow together more. I loved POA! I thought it was a good change but I just hope they don't feel that they have to change all the time.

Mira nair is a great director.She did this indian based movie called "Monsoon Wedding". This year she is coming out with the movie "Vanity Fair". I HIGHY DOUBT she will be directing HP, because she has her own style of directing, and it invloves the indian touch. =P

I never heard of this person either, but I think it's too early to worry about it. I think Alfonso Cuaron did a great job on PoA, so I would be happy if he came back. I don't think bringing back Columbus would mean the movie would be more faithful to the book, the books are simply getting too long for everything to be fit in a regular length movie. But it would be ok if he came back for another movie, too. He is already familiar with how everything should be. I just hope they keep the cast together, that is more important to me than the director right now, because I don't think JKR would let the movies get too far from the spirit of the book.
