Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena
.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso CuarĂ³n, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes
from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."
Thanks to OdFHP.com
and our own Geri for the tips.

Interesting... Well, I have never seen any of her movies so I don't really have any good comments on that. It would be cool to have a woman direct though.

If there is one thing I've learned from Hpana is to not believe rumors until they are confirmed or else you might be terriably dissapionted.

That's strange. I heard a few rumors that they were going to try to get Alfonso back. He did an amazing job. It's just a rumor though. This director directed Vanity Fair? I want to go see that movie 'cause it has Reese Witherspoon in it.

What is up with all the updates today? I like it! Anyway, I've never heard of her before but idependant film makers are so much more artistic, so if she doesn't direct it, I hope another one does.

I don't see why they need a new director for every film. Mira Nair is probably a great person, but looks like she is getting some free publicity. These super movie companies have no loyalty...it's all money with them.

It interesting idea. I don't know the individual. However, I am not surprised that they want to move forward soon on Book 5. The kids are getting older. It will still be an issue for book 5. Books 6 or 7 the change in age will be less apparent.

The director of the first two films was great. I forget his name though. Its always great to try new things and whoever directs the 5 film will probably do a good job.

Whoever does end up directing Order needs to understand the book entirely! I don't want it to be bright and cheerful like Clombus directs! It has to be very dark and full of emotion!!

Sorry for the double post! I just wanted to say that I also think that we will be able to see a great form of fliming when Vanity Fair hits theaters! She directed that as well and I'm already excited!!

I wonder if they are going to butcher book 5, it is the longest book....and i heard they are not putting alot in book 4 so i don't know it better be a good director either way. I hated Chris Columbus...he made it so suger coated and too bright the production was bad. PoA look gorgeous.

Hmmmm.. oh so many directors.. I kinda wish they stuck with one the whole time. Not that I didn't like the Prisoner of Azkaban, cause it's my favorite so far, but it was so different compared to the first two movies... so I just don't want them all to be so different. I hope Rupert and Dan is in all the rest, along with Emma, Tom, and everyone else!

I seriously think this is a rumor. The filming for GoF just started recently, so I seriously doubt they have even begun writing the script for OotP. Whatever happened to "one film at a time"?
