Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena
.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso CuarĂ³n, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes
from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."
Thanks to OdFHP.com
and our own Geri for the tips.

She will have a lot to live up to. I wish they would bring back the guy who did the first two, he was brilliant. Good luck to her.

I have never seen any movies she's directed ( or even heard of her) soi i cant tell if she would do a good job. I dont care whoe directs as long as the film is brilliant. it has to match up to the amazingness (is that a word?) of the actual book!

Mira Nair is from INDIA. She directed some films in India.
One of her film which I saw was Mansoon Wedding. I did not like it much. If she got to direct OOTP i wish she would not cut as long as Alfonso.

Mira Nair kicks major butt! I thought that her "Monsoon Wedding" was sweet and hilarious, and that her "Kama Sutra" was bold and sensual (those who are younger than 18 should NOT watch this film!). I just saw her "Vanity Fair" yesterday and it was beautifully filmed and Reese Witherspoon was perfect as Becky Smart. Her movies up to this point have been relatively small and independent...but all to critical acclaim...which is similar to Alfonso Cuaron. So if she can do what Alfonso did with PoA, then I give her the thumbs up because Alfonso did an awesome job with PoA.

I'm glad the director has her head on straight. She seems interesting enough and her work is intriguing I hope she gives more serious consideration to the HP project.

Well I wonder if that is true? Vanity Fair looked ok but kinda weird..I haven't seen it though. I also wish they would just stick w/one director so the movies don't keep changing. Oh well..change is good sometimes I guess?

I liked the first too, didn't like the third, can't wait for the fourth. Now I'm getting word that a different director is doing the fifth, whatever happened to consistency.

I just saw Vanity Fair this weekend and I was very impressed by the direction. Nair's film Monsoon Wedding was also a very interesting piece. If she does end up directing OoTP, I think it would very different and exciting.

If she going to do the fifth book I hope she dose it some justice, because I was kinda disappointed when Alfonso did mention anything about James and the Marauders.
So I hope that they give her more screen time and not just focus everythin on one part because I kinda like how there's many thing going on in the books.
This is my opinion and I could be wrong.

She directed Vanity Fair, didn't she? There was an article about her in the Union Tribune when Vanity Fair came out. She's directed a bunch of other movies and all of them have something to do with India. After all, that's where she's from. Even Vanity Fair has an India bellydance scene. If she does direct it, will she mess it up because she wants to add cultural stuff? I think Peter Jackson should direct the rest of the films. He would stick to the story and make the movies as magical as the books.

Bring back Chris Columbus!! He was the greatest Harry Potter director of all time. He got the sets right (referenced to the book), he didnt cut stuff out, and most importantly, he followed the actual story and didnt make stuff up.
