MuggleNet and the HP Lexicon, both Fan Site Award winners
on JK Rowling's official web site, have posted an open letter
to the Harry Potter author in the hopes that she'll visit again and answer some nagging questions about her books and characters.
First, let us say that we don't want to know any big secrets from upcoming books. What fun would that be? We want to be surprised when we read them. However, there are some more mundane things that we'd love to know. As obsessive as we are, we would love to have some nagging things answered, partly to add missing details into the Lexicon and MuggleNet's pages, but also just because it's fun to learn these kinds of things.
Some of the questions: How many students are there at Hogwarts? How old are Molly and Arthur Weasley? Are there other Gryffindors in Harry's year besides the ones we've met in the books? Be sure to check out the letter for the full list of questions.
Meanwhile, Rowling is a candidate for 2005's Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award
, one of the most prestigous accolades in children's literature. Thanks to Veritaserum
for the tip.

I think it's so great that Jo has her this interaction with her fans. We all know she's a visitor to fan sites - it will be really interesting to see if she checks out those letters. It's like an unofficial dialogue. I think it really shows how much she is thinking about her fans at all times.

there are some pretty good questions on that list, but I have one of my own that I don't know I've ever had clearly explained to me.
Notice how on a few instances Harry has gotten himself in trouble for casting magic when not in school. However, Hagrid is never allowed to cast magic. However, in the very first book before Harry is even in school he puts a fire in the fireplace and then casts a spell [u]on Dudley![u] I thought the point of the Ministry not allowing people to cast spells in that setting is because of the muggles that might see it. So how come Hagrid doesn't get in trouble any time that he casts magic, but especially when cast a spell directly on a muggle? And how come the ministry doesn't know it's him?

Yah, I would love to have those "little" questions answered. I always wondered if there were any other Gryffindors in Harry's year, too.
Congrats to JKR for her award.

I just got done reading the letter.. wow there are some really good questions in there. I can't wait to see if Jo answers them for us... I've really been nagged by the James question.. regarding him being a seeker or a chaser... I mean in OotP he was playing with the snitch, now if he wasn't a chaser why would he do that and why would he be fast enough to catch it.... anyway, those are my questions. I really do hope she answers some of them.

There are lots of questions that they want answered. I think some of them to do with the timeline are a bit trivial but the rest are really good questions. The one question that i would ask JK if i could meet her would be "How come James was Head Boy when he wasnt a prefect?" As soon as i read that part in OotP i thought about that and it has been bugging me ever since. I hope that she responds to the letter quickly, although i wouldnt want her to take precious time out of writing the next book to respond to it.

those were all really great questions, I just finished reading them. I think its great of JK to visit the fan sites dedicated to her books, I dont think many authors would do that. There were come questions on that list that ive also thought about before, like how many students are at Hogwarts. But one of them I think has already ben answered, wasnt Myrtle in Hufflepuff? It was always my assumption.
