MuggleNet and the HP Lexicon, both Fan Site Award winners
on JK Rowling's official web site, have posted an open letter
to the Harry Potter author in the hopes that she'll visit again and answer some nagging questions about her books and characters.
First, let us say that we don't want to know any big secrets from upcoming books. What fun would that be? We want to be surprised when we read them. However, there are some more mundane things that we'd love to know. As obsessive as we are, we would love to have some nagging things answered, partly to add missing details into the Lexicon and MuggleNet's pages, but also just because it's fun to learn these kinds of things.
Some of the questions: How many students are there at Hogwarts? How old are Molly and Arthur Weasley? Are there other Gryffindors in Harry's year besides the ones we've met in the books? Be sure to check out the letter for the full list of questions.
Meanwhile, Rowling is a candidate for 2005's Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award
, one of the most prestigous accolades in children's literature. Thanks to Veritaserum
for the tip.

Professor Scoots says:
While I would love to see her answer some of these nagging questions, I don't believe she will as they point out some of the many inconsistencies in her writing.

I know that she remains focused on the stories and is not as concerned if a few minor details are incorrect, but for us as fans we want to know everything and are pushing to have all details work out. Unfortunately, the facts and details often contradict each other from book to book (prefects taking points, etc) and so she has to come up with clever ways to explain things or admit she made a mistake. I think she is unlikely to take on an engagement with this as a focus. She has book 6 to write and a life to lead.
So while I would LOVE to hear from Jo about these questions, I think it is unlikely that she will.
P.S. I would love to be wrong!!

They are really good questions to ask JK Rowling. I have been wondering about a few of them myself. Like are there any other boys in Harry's year that are Gryffindors that aren't in his dorm, and is Hermione the oldest or youngest out of the trio? I really hope JK answers them.

Good point, Professor Scoots. I like to play the Pollyanna bit and hope that she will tell us.
I read them, and some of them are questions that I've asked myself. So, I'd love to hear/read the answers.

Those are some really good questions.... Nothing too invasive that will scare her off. How cool would it be if she actually answered them? It would be kinda like a mini-interview...

We know JK checks out those sites since she gave them the award, therefore I really hope that she answers that letter! I'd love to know the one about whether or not there are more Gryffindors in Harry's year. I was always given the impression that it was always just Harry, Ron, Seamus, Dean, and Neville; Hermione, Lavender, and Parvati, but I guess there could be more.

Well if JKR isn't answering many questions or updating her site much, it is a good thing. It's certainly a nice letter and lot of questions to ask, so I doubt she will get to all of them. It would certainly been interesting to hear the answers though.
AND GREAT JOB Jo for getting nominated for such a great award.
