Emma commentedopens in new window on being there to turn on the lights:

I have wanted to do it ever since I was very young and I saw the Spice Girls do it. I love Oxford Street. I have come here most Christmases because I love the lights and all the beautiful displays in all the shops.

Oxford Street is great if you want to buy overpriced tat, stupid London souvenirs, and get harassed by a fundamentalist with a loudspeaker ('Sinners or winners!'). Of course, there's HMV, with a whole floor I want to buy (first floor, DVDs and games), if you're a talented shoplifter TopShop is value for money, and Marks and Spencers is always worth a visit, for the bagpiper outside. If you want to be a fake hippy with no hippy heart, you can bop on over to Carnaby street and get a coffee from Starbucks, or see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or go to Liberty and cry for expensive rugs and teapots and stuff. I went there for a treat and had nice strawberries, out of season. Maaaarvellous. Oxford Street is great.
