Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was quoted at the recent DVD launch party as saying that he would love to come back to director another Harry Potter.
From The Leaky Cauldron
:
Later on if I could I would love to come back and work on another Harry Potter film. It's a gift, it's a gift. It was one of the best years of my life, doing this film.
A reporter then asked him about his experience working with children:
I don't think they would appreciate you calling them children! They are teenagers, they are young adults, maybe. It's fantastic. They're amazing. It's an amazing group of actors. At this point they are such experienced actors, they are ... interacting with some of the best actors in life.
And on another note Variety is reporting
that Cuarón has signed a three-year, first-look production deal with Warner Brothers.
Jeff Robinov from Warner Bros. had this to say:
We had a wonderful experience with Alfonso on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and have been long-time admirers of his work. His deal will give us the opportunity to collaborate with Alfonso on movies that make the most of his artistry and vision and continue to offer him the mainstream worldwide audiences that our studio provides so successfully.
Does that mean we can hope to see Alfonso directing another Potter movie in the near future?

I hoe he does not direct any more Potter films. I think the third film is the worst so far. It differs from the book in sooooo many ways. Bring back Chris.

I think that is gonna be amazing! Even having "destroyed" the story that was in the book he did an awsame movie. I think he's a bloody brillant director. I just loved the PoA, for me it's the best movie so far, although I'm sure The GoF will be better...

Wow, he certainly sounds enthusiastic! So many directors for all of these movies! I wonder if they should have considered one huge filming project (like they did for the Lord of the Rings trilogy), they might have saved some time and money in the long run and then they wouldn't have had to worry about the kids getting too old or finding new directors all of the time.

Cuaron is not to blame for the flagrant omissions in PoA. Cuaron doesn't write the script, he's just a director. If you don't like how PoA turned out then blame the screenwriters. I thought the actual direction of PoA was spectacular, and if WB can create better HP scripts then I'm all for Cuaron taking another shot at the movies.

I know it must be a ton of work but how could anyone not want to direct a Harry Potter film. I mean really its Harry Potter. It would be great if he did the 5th movie. I just wish that they would get this all squared away and start filming it ASAP so the same actors can play the principle characters.

I think having Cuaron back to do another film is a good idea, I think he was great directing the POA and moved it to a different direction.

That would be amazing if he came back to do another Harry Potter movie. It wasn't his fault Kloves made it suck. The movie itself was bloody gorgeous.

To say that Cúaron is "just a director" is misleading. Steve Kloves is not the only one to blame. There weren't only omissions, but artistic additions to the movie that Cúaron did have a part in that I did not find appleaing at all. I don't like the way Cúaron directed Harry Potter-- the movie came out choppily and flowed very poorly. It was visually beautiful, but that is the most superficial quality of the director's job. There was much lacking in the PoA movie, in my opinion.
I would not like to see Cúaron direct another Harry Potter movie.

It would be nice to see him back. He would have been ideal for the dark material in Book 5. Maybe one of the later books will be more suited. Potentially, Book 7.

I really wish people would stop complaining about Cuarón and/or Kloves and their "ruining" of PoA. The movie has long since been finished and there's no point continuing this drawn out comparison of his film to the first two films. It's all in the past now and there's no point in dwelling on it - always best to look toward the future.
I personally would love to see Cuarón return for another Harry Potter film (why haven't they approached him for Order of the Phoenix?) He has done the best job of any director so far of capturing the tone and theme of the books. He understands the whole teen angst feeling and did a fantastic job of bringing that to the screen. The performances he brought from all the young actors were their best yet and I credit that to his understanding of adolescence.
The films are never going to be able to do what the books can. They're completely different mediums. You have to go into the film viewing not expeciting it to cover every single detail of the books - if you do that you most certainely be disappointed.

Since when has a movie really stayed true to a book? Capturing the true esssence of a book on film is one of the hardest things to do! But for the job that was done it has to be commended only! Alfonso did an amazing job! The 3rd book is the turning point to darkness and Alfonso did an awesome job capturing this! From an artistic point of view, this is a masterpiece. The first two movies were more "child-like" but the books appeal to all ages. I feel that Cuaron did an amazing job by making this movie for all ages and he showed a lot of maturity that both the actors/actresses are experiencing and towards the fans.
It would be awesome for him to do another because he really shows what a director actually is, an artist.

That would be so awesome if Alfonso came back to direct another HP movie. "Prisoner of Azkaban" is by far the best of the movies so far. He gave Hogwarts a much darker feel that was so completely lacking in Columbus's work. Plus, he knows how to avoid sappy, pathetic endings (like "Chamber of Secrets"). Please sign him up!!!
