Cuarón 'would love to come back' to Harry Potter Popular (3125)

Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was quoted at the recent DVD launch party as saying that he would love to come back to director another Harry Potter.

From The Leaky Cauldronopens in new window:

Later on if I could I would love to come back and work on another Harry Potter film. It's a gift, it's a gift. It was one of the best years of my life, doing this film.

A reporter then asked him about his experience working with children:

I don't think they would appreciate you calling them children! They are teenagers, they are young adults, maybe. It's fantastic. They're amazing. It's an amazing group of actors. At this point they are such experienced actors, they are ... interacting with some of the best actors in life.

And on another note Variety is reportingopens in new window that Cuarón has signed a three-year, first-look production deal with Warner Brothers.

Jeff Robinov from Warner Bros. had this to say:

We had a wonderful experience with Alfonso on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and have been long-time admirers of his work. His deal will give us the opportunity to collaborate with Alfonso on movies that make the most of his artistry and vision and continue to offer him the mainstream worldwide audiences that our studio provides so successfully.

Does that mean we can hope to see Alfonso directing another Potter movie in the near future?

Wow that is great I am a big fan of his and I think the PoA movie is the best so far. I think he stayed true to the spirit of the book instead of just photocopying it.

I also hope that Curaon never directs another HP movie. There were quite a few things that he did to POA that I did not like. He also ruined the movie of another one of my favorite books, "A Little Princess" in some ways. Bring back Chris at least!!

Alfonso Cuaron would definitely be wonderful for the franchise! The script and stuff was a bit short, but that wasn't his doing; he understood the teen actors and their angst and stuff and really captured the spirit of the whole thing! He must come back! And why not for OotP, since it is such a dark installment and he'd be good for it. (then again, we don't know how dark HBP is- yet)

AAAAHHHH! NOOOOOOOOO! I didn't like him at all he strayed WAY to far from the story. He didn't even explain who the marauders were (he easily could have done it instead of showing the Whomping Willow 400 times and putting in all of that Ron/Hermione love stuff. That so doesn't happen until GoF). He ruined the best book in the series.

It'd be great if he directs another one. I loved what he did with Prisoner and since he's pretty familiar with the actors and the story it seems like it would be easy to bring him back.

I would love to see Cuaron come back. In fact, I surprised he couldn't for GOF, but I understand that would have delayed filming. The only thing is, I hope if he does come back, he doesn't add too much foreshadowing. Although, tehre's not a lot of foreshadowing left to do....

Well I hope he comes back to direct the fifth film!!! He had done a great job with Prisoner of Azkaban and I really hope he can direct the fifth film if he can. I love his style of angles and the way he shots scenes and I really love the music in the film(Even though it wasn't composed by Alfonso.).

merri maven says:

Even J.K. Rowling loved Cuaron! She told Alfonso Cuaron should be faithful to the spirit of the book. And he did, watching his vision of PoA was a magical experience for me.

The first two movies were okay, but Chris Columbus mainly directed a xerox copy of each book. I appreciate him for all of the foundation of the movies (sets, actors, etc.), but he did not succeed in making me feel the same magic I feel when reading Rowling's books.

If people can't look beyond what is included about the book, then they would not appreciate the awesome cinematic experience that Cuaron brings to all his movies. His interpretation of HP3 have made people to bring up the idea of an Oscar nomination. Even though we all know that Hollywood would never do that, only Cuaron's name was brought up, not Columbus'.

If you want the movie to be exactly like the book, don't watch the movie. You'll only get disappointed and will not be open to other directors who are creative genius'. Complaining about wanting to create 5 hour movies will attract all HP fans, but it will prevent people new to the HP books from caring about HP at all.

It'd be incredibly cool if he came back because he brings so much to the film! It's not at all faithful to the book, but as a film in itself PoA was genius! It brings it right up to date, I mean, in PS/SS and CoS the kids dressed like the Famous Five! They needed to grow up, and Cuaron did that for them, so now they're proper teenagers and easier to relate to...I hope he comes back!

Well, he seems like a nice enough guy to work with.
I better the actors would agree.
And will he come back...I'm not sure.
I do kinda think he cut and rearranged a little too much in the third movie, but I do recognize that that was unavoidable.

I agree that Cauron did NOT ruin the PoA film, he could only do so much with what was given to him. I think he did a really good job with the script that was ALREADY WRITTEN BY SOMEBODY ELSE. Cauron can not be blamed for "not holding true to the book", he can't re-write the script!!
I think he did a very good job of capturing the darker sense of the third book. Of course this movie is not as happy-go-lucky as the first two, that's because the third book is much darker!
Personally, I would love to see him come back. I think his work on PoA was exeptional and that he would be a very good choice for the director of The Order of the Phoenix.
