Cuarón 'would love to come back' to Harry Potter Popular (3089)

Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was quoted at the recent DVD launch party as saying that he would love to come back to director another Harry Potter.

From The Leaky Cauldronopens in new window:

Later on if I could I would love to come back and work on another Harry Potter film. It's a gift, it's a gift. It was one of the best years of my life, doing this film.

A reporter then asked him about his experience working with children:

I don't think they would appreciate you calling them children! They are teenagers, they are young adults, maybe. It's fantastic. They're amazing. It's an amazing group of actors. At this point they are such experienced actors, they are ... interacting with some of the best actors in life.

And on another note Variety is reportingopens in new window that Cuarón has signed a three-year, first-look production deal with Warner Brothers.

Jeff Robinov from Warner Bros. had this to say:

We had a wonderful experience with Alfonso on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and have been long-time admirers of his work. His deal will give us the opportunity to collaborate with Alfonso on movies that make the most of his artistry and vision and continue to offer him the mainstream worldwide audiences that our studio provides so successfully.

Does that mean we can hope to see Alfonso directing another Potter movie in the near future?

PowerGranger says:

I agree with Phoenix Feather - the movies are adaptations of the books; someone else's vision of the story. I loved Cuaron's vision for PoA. It would be impossible for anyone to create a version that would satisfy everyone. I really liked how Cuaron didn't try to do that. (Still, I think WB will agree that the movie was well-received.) I have long thought it would be awesome for Cuaron to return for OotP, which I think has a similar (dark) tone to PoA, but from the sound of it, that's probably not in the works. Since HBP and #7 will probably be even more dark, he would probably be great for either. I'd love to see him take another one on.

GodricsGirl says:

I want Christopher Columbus back!
I want my Harry movies to follow the books more closely and I don't particularly want the characters to look like they just walked out of a Nirvana concert.
I really liked POA on its on footing, but as far as the movies are concerned, COS has been the best adaptation so far.

Malakite says:

I hate to say it, but I didn't like the third movie nearly as much as the first two - and it was because they did not follow the book very closely like GodricsGirl mentioned. I don't know how much of that was Curon's "fault," so I reserve judgement on that aspect. But as for the acting and the nuances of the acting, I think Curon did okay. I think he could do some wonderful things, since he is obviously talented, and yet, I also wouldn't care if he DID direct another Harry Potter movie, as long as HE doesn't cut stuff out.....

It would be great ! I saw the movie on dvd a couple of days ago , and it is even better than on screen.
the director would be perfect to handle and show what Harry goes through in book 5.
Now something to tease you: if looks could kill, both Cùaron and Kloves would be dead by now, you will see what i mean, when you see the interviews...

He is a dramatic kind of guy, so I guess since the books get more and more darker, it would be a nice touch. I personally thought POA was a great movie, however compared to the movie, it wasn't the best it could have been. I love the work Alfonso has done though, don't get me wrong, I just think his look on POA wasn't the best.

Plus it is much harder to traslate into film than the first two because there is more talk and events that you could spend 5 hours on. I hope one day they turn the books into a mini-series so they can spend alot of tim on each book.

THAT WOULD BE AMAZING! I loved him and the way he directed POA was awesome. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that they cut too much, other than that, it was GREAT. I liked him WAY better than Chris, I don't care what you people will say to that. Go Alfonso!

That would be so awesome. I totally want him to come back. He did such an amzing job on POA. He's the best director for these movies. He has to do it. He alone can make these movies great. (ok. i might be exaggerating a bit, but i'm a total fan of his. i loved y tu mama tambien. he has an amazing vision)Ronald_Weasley, I totally didn't appreciate your comment. To use the word screw if too harsh of a word. He has proven many times that he is a good director. And if he "screwed" up like you said, then why did POA make so much in the box office and got excellent reviews?
