Rumors are abound on the Internet today because of a small report on Dark Horizons stating that Elizabeth Hurley has been offered the role of an ‘evil witch’ in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
According to Dark Horizons
:
During CNBC News last night, it was apparently revealed that Elizabeth Hurley has been offered a part in the fifth Harry Potter movie The Order of the Phoenix with the character described only as an "evil witch", best guess for now is the role of Bellatrix. She apparently hasn't signed yet, but is thinking about it. Filming begins sometime next year.
We are currently trying to find out if there is any truth to this, but I decided to post the story since so many other Harry Potter sites are doing so. As with all unconfirmed casting news, please treat this as a rumor. As soon as we hear official news we will post it.
UPDATE: We have just received word from Warner Bros.:
There is absolutely no truth in that rumor whatsoever.

I'd love to see Hurley in this film, especially as Bella, because I think she could really do that bent babe some justice.

Hmmm... not a real fan of Liz Hurley. I've heard she is a very difficult actor to work with among other things and like auror_nymph I really can't see her playing a challenging role such as Bellatrix. It's gonna have to be someone with talent enough to make us believe that they're evil because Bellatrix surely is.

No, I don't see it either. First I picture Umbridge to look like a human version of the smile-less deadpan "Roz" character in "Monsters, Inc." (anyone with me?!) so I know there is no way Elizabeth Hurley would be considered for anyone evil other than Bellatrix in OotP, which I still can't imagine. I know makeup does wonders, but I do see her as more of a comic actor than a seriously evil one. Though the big Sirius/Bellatrix battle in OotP would be extremely strange if it were Gary Oldman vs. Elizabeth Hurley! Yipes. I am treating this as rumor!

I really can't see Elizabeth Hurley as any kind of evil witch. I know she was evil in bedazzled, but she wasn't all that evil, she had more of a comical evil to her. which means that she will be Bellatrix. i just didn't have her looking like that.

She could easily pull off doing Bellatrix Lestrange. She's not the best actress, but I think that she could do a very good evil character. So far, I haven't seen her do anything on the antagonist side of character, but I can't wait to see her do it.

Well, I can sort of see how she could play Bellatrix. I wouldn't say she'd perfect for the part. I'd imagined Bellatrix to be a bit older, but I guess they'll be putting on make-up and stuff to make her uglier or something...

She was actually quite good.
I can see her as Bellatrix...just imagine her with pale skin, very little make-up, and jet black hair.
