Rumors are abound on the Internet today because of a small report on Dark Horizons stating that Elizabeth Hurley has been offered the role of an ‘evil witch’ in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
According to Dark Horizons
:
During CNBC News last night, it was apparently revealed that Elizabeth Hurley
has been offered a part in the fifth Harry Potter movie The Order of the Phoenix with the character described only as an "evil witch", best guess for now is the role of Bellatrix. She apparently hasn't signed yet, but is thinking about it. Filming begins sometime next year.
We are currently trying to find out if there is any truth to this, but I decided to post the story since so many other Harry Potter sites are doing so. As with all unconfirmed casting news, please treat this as a rumor. As soon as we hear official news we will post it.
UPDATE: We have just received word from Warner Bros.:
There is absolutely no truth in that rumor whatsoever.

Liz Hurley would be perfect for the role of Bellatrix Lestrange. She's definately very pretty and thin enough to have been in Azkaban for 14 years.

I am glad that that was just a rumor. b/c she doesn't really look suited for the hp cast. she is a little more .... well not suited for the role.

I'm very pleased that this turned out to be rumor. She's very well fitted for some roles, but I don't think that Harry Potter movies would benefit from her talent. There are many other talented actors who would better fit "evil witch" roles in the HP movies.

Thats cool. But we have 1 more movie to go. Oh well. I would not have her down as an evil witch but shes a good actor so she shoudl be good. If shes chosen.

Hmm, i never trust rumours. Personaly i realy dont like her as an actor because well...she cant act, and shes had the crappest films so far. it just wouldnt seem right. Personaly i see the woman in underworld as perfect for the role, shes british and looks like a relative of sirius :) would be perfect.

Aww, well it would have been cool if she were in it, but it will be awesome enough anyway! I'm not sure I can picture her as Bellatrix anyway though, she's too pretty for that role.

yeah I think she would have been a brilliant actress for the part of Bella. However now we have a exhilarating wait for the new actress of Bellatrix. It's just like the wait for Rita Skeeter which we now know who it is. Personally I think she is perfect and will be a great evil woman!

Even though it was a rumor-and not true, it poses certain thoughts to me. One (and this may sound rude) if they're picking such an attractive actress for Bellatrix (though they aren't) shouldn't they also pick more attractive people for Sirius and Lupin (Oh come on now, don't even try and tell me you were surprised by the choices for those parts!)-not that these men are unattractive, but Lupin is supposed to be much younger, in his 30's, and Sirius is supposed to be just dashingly handsome.
Most of me loves the way the actors are portrayed but I cannot get over the fact that they look wrong for the part!
There was a bit of hope in me that Bellatrix would be gorgeous-like she is supposed to be-but this is wrong. Let's hope they still pick someone beautiful. To be true to the book.
Another note-most people say that only beautiful people should be cast in films (this is clearing up what you must think is my horrible personality) but that's not true. Hagrid is perfect, so are the Dursleys. Are they beautiful? ...no.

And another note Thestral Eyes I completely agree with you. Elizabeth Hurley may be attractive (quite stunningly so) she is not worthy of portraying Bellatrix. Her acting simply isn't up to snuff-we can chalk it up to her appearance being her saving grace. Anyways, this topic has been talked to death.

too true shimmeraei (thanks for agreeing! yay!), i realy dispise that womans acting for some reason, probably because theres such a lack of aplitude for it on her part. I mean come on..austin powers and bedazzled...bah! Crap!
And after reading your previous post, i agree with YOu this time :) Althrough the actors who play sirius and lupin are good actors..theyr enothing like how i imagined them, theyre too grufty! especialy sirius..alan rickmans better looking, hes supposed ot be much better looking than snape! Tisk tisk, hopefully hell look better in the next film when hes had a shave/done up abit..not holding my breath though..aah agod i sound so shallow! :p
and phil_ SYALK! cardboard scares everyone :p

Thestral Eyes, it's so nice to find someone of the opinion. Usually when I voice my thoughts, I'm put down. The acting is quite up to snuff -to coin a term- but the appearance left me feeling bereft. Actually, a lot of the movie did. Did you notice quite a bit of things being left out and the sequence being changed? And Wormtail (God help me) was horrible! Absolutely horrendous! I cannot stand his appearance whatsoever!

Oh you wont get put down on hpana shimmeraei, everyone free to voice their opinions. if you were around at teh time of POA comming out at cinema you would have seen me venting all over the place about how naff i thought the film was in the prisoner of azkaban forum. i HATED it! Werewolf..embarassment! anorexic lanky man with a naff dogs mask on! Dementors..like bin bags caught in the wind, always thought they sahould have been like Ringwraiths out of LOTR, more solid and menacing, and FLOATING slightlyu above the ground NOT zooming around everywere! bah! No stag patronus, marauder detail left out, quiddich cup being won for the 1st time left out, too much left out! The change in scenes was annoying too, and what the hell was that with buckbeak/harry and the titanic moment!?
*breathes* ahhaa ill shut up now, but yes, your not alone in your annoyance with the film.

Thestral Eyes, yes, hahaha, this is really funny, because you're bringing back my memory of all the things I loathed about the film. The dementors were one of my biggest iffs about the film-the zooming. As you remarkably took all the thoughts out of my head and stated them. The CGI werewolf was one of the many disappointments, and the extreme lack of Quidditch, not to mention the changes in the locations (the courtyard at Hogwarts was different-true, the huge clock swinging back and forth was really cool, but not in the other films...) and Hagrid's hut. Does anyone else ever recall it being on that huge steep cliff? Another point I have to stress is the aggravating change of directors. What happened, did each director just decide one film was enough?! I'm so angry that one director didn't stick with the whole series. The films are going to change inexplissably (wow, that was wrong spelling!) and another point, the knight bus. the weird music that went with it. Did the Knight Bus annoy the bejesus out of anyone else?
