One example: The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of SPEW.
According to Heyman:
It's Hermione's issue. Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it].
Other things that we can expect to see in the movie:

I understand that they have to cut some of the book down. And if JKR says it's "fine," it should be fine. As long as the story does not go way off course, I'm fine with it too. It sounds great, I can't wait! Roll on November 18!
Rock on Dan!

It didn't say new character, it said another character. I think maybe they'll pass dobby's lines off to a minor character... like colin creevey. His character seems a lot like dobby. I think they'll do a great job on the movie no matter what they decide to cut. I will miss seeing Winky though.

I knew something like this was coming. I just hope they don't make GoF a 2 hour film becaues that wouldn't be goodé

I don't think cutting the house elf storyline is that bad, I just hope they keep the fight between Ron and Hermione about Krum. That was a huge part of the story about the Yule Ball and if they remove it, it just won't be the same.

I can understand why they want to cut that part of the book but I still don't like it when they cut out pieces.

I don't mind the fact that SPEW has been cut out. The film is about Harry not Hermione and I would rather that be cut out than something even more important. Also, If JKR is okay with the change, I am okay with it.

I'm not complaining. I think it's unreasonable to expect everything to be included. I'm bummed though abuot some things not being included, but only because I'm fond of those things, not because I think that the director is cheating the story somehow.

I'm depressed that they are cutting stuff out but I guess it has to be that way. I would love to see the entire books in movie form!

I'm not expecting the movie to be anything like the book. I have come to that realization and I think it's helping me to get over the fact that they are cleaving the books into several little pieces. But it's a movie...so I'm okay with that. We'll just see what happens.

I am okay with this, I kinda got irratated by the whole SPEW thing in the book, so I'm not gonna miss it in the movie, I wonder if this means that the house-elves won't play a vital role in the war...

That doesn't sound too bad. I mean it was only logical that they do some severe editing b/c GoF is really long. If Jo's alright with everything, i trust her judgement. Remember, she made the books, she knows what will work. Oh, btw, maybe this is a british term (i'm american you see, i need everything explained to me), but what is a "Trial Chamber"?

Well I'm glad that Jo understands that they can't be literal with the story. As to the what sticks thing is pretty good idea, like in PoA that they did that I thought that film was great so I'm sure I will love GoF.

Its all good in my book. Nothing too important is cut out, and SPEW kinda made me mad, sos its cool with me. It'll still be a good movie, and no offence, but I really don't want to be in a theatre watching a movie for 5 hours or some other ridiculous number.

Well it was to be expected that there would be some things cut since the book is so long. I guess as long as Jo is ok with it we all should be too! From the pictures we've seen so far I think the movie will be really great.

Well that just tells us that Dobby and Winky don't play a vital role in the upcoming books. That means a lot of stuff will be cut out of the movie. Oh well nothing can be done about it.
