One example: The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of SPEW.
According to Heyman:
It's Hermione's issue. Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it].
Other things that we can expect to see in the movie:

Also I want to see how they do the triwizard tournament, oh and you know how Harry is very moody and scary in a way in the 5th book I want to see if they act that out in the film. I am a bit annoyed about them cutting bits of but if J.K likes it, its got to be good!!

I would expect a lot to be cut out, since the book is so long. I found Hermione's SPEW issure to be a bit annoying, so I don't really mind that it is gone. Either way, I can't wait for the movie to come out!

Questions:
S.P.E.W. may not be Harry's issue, but if they are cutting out the houselves all together...that is going to cause a problem isnt i?
1) Without Winky, who is guarding barty crouch at all? Who gets blamed for stealing Harry's wand and magicking the dark mark into the sky?
2) Without Dobby, how will Harry get the gillyweed? Who will overhear the conversation between Moody and the professor to know that Harry needs gillyweed?
3) Remember it is Harry who learns from Dobby about the room of requirement. (He had past information about the chamber pots from Dumbledore and finding Winky a place to sober up)But I'm sure Dobby will make a comback in the next movie to tell them all about it, or they will pass this information off to someone else.
4) Does this mean the elves aren't so huge later on? What about the fountain in the ministry? Will the elves play no part?

I believe that it is okay that they cut out some of the story, because 700 pages is alot to turn into a movie, especially one that will arleady be over two hours long

That's why I prefer the books and not the movies...a book contains the full story but the movie....no.

That's not so bad. It is true that it really doesn't have to do that much with Harry's Journey, but they should make it an extra scene with the DvD, but they should just mention it randomly or something like that, at least include a word about it.

I am kind of dissapointed about not seeing Dobby or Winky. So giving that we are not seeing any house elfs, we probably arent going to see the kitchen. I was very excited to see what it would look like. But ohwell...what can you do?

I guess that is not too bad! I really like the subplot of SPEW, because it shows that Hermione isn't ALL about studying! But, I guess that I can live with it. I would rather them just not put things in the movie instead of switching everything around and ruining the books! I still can't wait for it to come out!!!

It would be intresting if they could make the movie with time contraints for regular viewing. However do like they did for LOTR, and release an extended edition with the entire story.

To be honest, i realy did not like the whole house elf sub plot to the GOF book, it annoyed me to the most part, so i for one am happy its been axed from the film to make way for more important things..like the dragons ;) hehe. Shame the film wasnt made longer, i would sit through a LOTR lengh film any day.

I was looking forward to the SPEW part, I can't believe they cut it out. I think they should've made the movie longer, Return of the King was only 400 pages long and that movie was 3 and a half hours long. GOF is 700 pages long and only 2 and a half hours long something doesn't add up here! Either way the movie will still be good!

AR_GRYFFINDOR says:
I'm really disappointed about the house elves issue. It was amusing to read about and, more importantly, the subplot between Winky and Dobby is quite important to the development of the story as a whole. How do they expect to reconcile the gap in the plot once they eliminate the house elves from the story? It becomes quite a different story if they don't exist. I mean, what will happen with Winky and that whole part when Harry loses his wand? I think that if they want to eliminate some parts of the story, then that's fine, but they are eliminating a crucial part of the plot, and it's too bad that Rowling agreed to it.

I guess that's alright! I'm not very fond on SPEW myself and I'm curious about this piece of information. So mysterious... Cant wait for the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least Jo says it's alright! After all they can't put the whole book with details on screen. Though I wouldn't mind spending 5 hours watching Harry Potter...

Hmmmm...Remember how Alfonso Cuaron (spelling?) tried to make a graveyard scene and then JKR told him not to because it would be relevant later? Then we all started saying "There must be a graveyard somewhere on the grounds that we don't know about and it will be important later!" I'm sure someone's already mentioned this, but I'm thinking the scene at the end of Goblet of Fire when Cedric dies is the graveyard scene. I don't think there's a graveyard on the grounds...just a significant scene with a graveyard, i.e. the Cedric scene. Sorry if it's already been brought up or whatever...Oh and I can't wait to see this movie!!! and read the next book!!!

That isn't so bad. It seems we will be seeing the pensieve scene because we have forfeited the Spew storyline, which is funny but as was said, not relevant to the central plot. I really did like the whole spew thing. it was funny
